Description
Miss Dori, whose full name in the original Japanese series is Midori Yoshinaga (later Midori Ishizaka after marriage), is a central supporting character in the anime Shin Chan. She is the 24‑year‑old homeroom teacher of the Sunflower class at Futaba Kindergarten, the school attended by the main character Shinnosuke Nohara. Her background shows her as a dedicated kindergarten teacher who began her career using her maiden name, Yoshinaga, and later changed her surname upon marrying Junichi Ishizaka.

Personality-wise, Miss Dori is portrayed as kind‑hearted, patient, and genuinely affectionate toward the children in her care. She strives to be a responsible educator, though her patience is often tested by Shin‑chan’s mischievous behaviour. Despite this, she maintains a warm and nurturing manner. She can occasionally become flustered or impulsive, especially when competing with Ume Matsuzaka, the teacher of the Rose class. This rivalry is a recurring source of comic conflict, as both teachers constantly compete over which class is superior, whether in academics, sports, or special events.

Miss Dori’s motivation centres on being the best teacher she can be and gaining recognition for her class. She also has a personal desire for a stable romantic life, which is fulfilled when she begins a relationship with Junichi Ishizaka. Their courtship and eventual marriage mark a significant personal development for her character, moving from a single, somewhat inexperienced young woman to a married teacher. This milestone is celebrated in the series and shows her growth in balancing professional responsibilities with personal fulfilment.

Her role in the story is primarily that of a recurring authority figure at the kindergarten. She interacts daily with Shin‑chan and his friends, often serving as the straight‑man to his antics. She also plays a supportive role in many of the children’s adventures and appears in numerous feature‑length films. Her key relationships include her friendly but competitive dynamic with Ume Matsuzaka, her affectionate bond with her students, and her romantic partnership with Junichi Ishizaka.

Notable abilities are not superhuman; she is a competent teacher who can manage a classroom, handle emergencies (such as a bout of appendicitis that required surgery), and organise activities for the children. She is also shown to be resourceful, living modestly in a cheap apartment and handling financial constraints without embarrassment. Her development over the series is marked by her transition from a single teacher to a married woman and by the gradual maturation of her teaching style, though she remains fundamentally the same caring person throughout.
