TV-Series
Description
Patty Milfer is a recurring supporting character in the anime Crayon Shin-chan, where she is known in the original Japanese version as Moeko Sakurada. She is the mother of Nene Sakurada, a classmate of the main character, and she belongs to the circle of neighborhood mothers who regularly interact with the Nohara family in the town of Kasukabe. She is 28 years old, which makes her one year younger than Misae Nohara.
In her everyday life, Patty generally appears as a composed, kind, and ordinary young mother, and when she is not upset she acts and looks like a normal woman going about her household routine. She has red hair and a neat, conventional appearance. This calm surface, however, hides a short temper. She is easily irritated by Shin-chan, whom she openly despises, and she is also frequently annoyed by Misae, whose company seems to get on her nerves whenever the two mothers meet. What makes her distinctive is how she expresses that anger. Instead of confronting people directly, she releases her frustration in private by savagely beating a large stuffed rabbit. When others happen to witness this behavior, including her own daughter, they are visibly disturbed by the abrupt transformation, and even the stuffed rabbit is treated as the victim of her outbursts.
Her habit of taking out her stress on stuffed rabbits runs in the family. It was passed down from her own mother, and she has unconsciously passed it on to Nene, who shows the same temperament and lets out her frustrations on stuffed toys. Nene occasionally sees her mother in this enraged state and reacts with shock, as the furious woman no longer resembles the mother she knows. Patty's motivations are not explored in great depth. Like many of the adult characters, she appears driven by the everyday pressures of raising a child, keeping up appearances among the neighborhood mothers, and enduring Shin-chan's mischief, and her venting behavior serves as a release for those ordinary frustrations.
In the story, Patty is a supporting figure who appears mainly in slice-of-life episodes about the adults and children of the neighborhood. Her household includes her husband, Naegi Sakurada, whose easygoing and sociable nature contrasts with hers, and who often invites the Nohara family to outings such as cherry blossom festivals, much to his wife's displeasure. Her relationship with Nene is affectionate beneath the surface, but it is marked by the startling moments when Nene catches sight of her mother's violent private habit. Through both mother and daughter, the series shows how the same coping mechanism repeats across generations.
Patty does not undergo significant development over the course of the series. She remains a consistent recurring presence whose behavior stays largely stable, and her role is to create friction in ordinary domestic and neighborhood settings. Her notable characteristics include the ability to appear perfectly normal in public, the capacity to switch suddenly into intense anger, and the peculiar habit of channeling that anger into vigorous physical attacks on stuffed rabbits, a habit that regularly startles the people who observe it.
