Movie
Description
El Drago is the captain of an unnamed pirate crew and serves as the main antagonist of the first One Piece movie. His entire identity is defined by an insatiable and obsessive love for gold, a greed so powerful that it borders on a fetish. He famously rejects other precious treasures such as diamonds and gems, caring only for gold, which he is known to affectionately rub against his cheek.

In terms of appearance, El Drago is a tall, dark-skinned man with red hair. His facial features lead Monkey D. Luffy to compare him to a cat or a lion, a resemblance that is further emphasized by his ship, which is adorned with gold plating and has a lion for a figurehead. True to his obsession, his combat attire incorporates the object of his desire. He wears large, durable golden shoulder pads as armor, which are strong enough to withstand multiple strikes from Luffy, and sharp, hard golden nails over his real ones that serve as stabbing weapons.

El Drago has eaten a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit called the Goe Goe no Mi, also known as the Scream-Scream Fruit. This ability grants him the power to generate a powerful wave of sound simply by yelling. When released, this destructive force takes on the appearance of a laser beam and can cause explosive damage. El Drago is able to control the intensity of these blasts, but the ability has a critical weakness: the sound waves can be deflected, and if deflected back at him, they can cause significant backfiring damage.

His role in the story is that of a ruthless pursuer. El Drago enters the narrative by tracking down and killing the former crew members of the legendary Great Gold Pirate Woonan, from whom he steals a treasure map. During his journey to find what he believes to be a mountain of gold, his crew robs the Straw Hat Pirates, leading to a confrontation where he uses his Devil Fruit powers to scatter the crew. He is a cruel and arrogant individual who shows no hesitation in kidnapping or attempting to kill those who get in his way, including a young boy named Tobio.

Throughout the film, El Drago has key interactions with several characters. He is the antagonist to the entire Straw Hat crew, particularly Luffy, who he battles directly. He employs a crew of subordinates, including a group known as the Hyena Three and his second-in-command, Golass, whom he pays in gold coins to perform tasks. He also captures the young boy Tobio, forcing him into labor, and is deceived by Usopp, who pretends to be a treasure hunter to lead him astray.

El Drago shows little to no character development, remaining fixated on gold until his defeat. His motivation is purely materialistic, and he is stubbornly unable to comprehend that Woonan's true treasure was not gold but the concept of friendship and memory. In the film's climax, his golden armor is shattered by Luffy's attacks. He is ultimately defeated when Luffy uses his rubber body to catch and redirect one of El Drago's own sound blasts back at him, following up with a Gomu Gomu no Bazooka that sends him flying into the sea.
