Description
Ganryu is a Saurian pilot serving the Dinosaur Empire, commanding Unit 2, Gallim, of the Gettersaurus mecha. He shares a childhood history as playmates with Sho Kamui. Years later, when the Getter Team arrives for Operation Jura Dead, Professor Han reveals Ganryu, alongside Vise and Gozro, was chosen to pilot the Empire's newest Mechasaurus; a teammate clarifies their selection stemmed from their expendable status within the Empire's hierarchy.
Ganryu participates in Zold's defense against the Andromeda Stellaration. The Gettersaurus follows the Getter Team into Zold after the Black Shin Getter pilot's sacrifice clears a path. Inside, Ganryu's team becomes separated and realizes they've been transported to another planet. With the Gettersaurus damaged and combat capabilities compromised, they face attacks requiring rescue. Ganryu's unit is captured during an escape attempt but saved by the Getter Team's intervention.
Transported to the future, Ganryu and his team encounter human forces led by Musashi Tomoe but are excluded from strategic discussions due to their non-human status. In the final battle against the Andromeda Stellaration, they provide backup to the Getter Arc until learning Kamui is missing. After assisting in Kamui's space rescue, they are drawn into the Star Boarder and exit through Zold.
Ganryu later aids Kamui in assaulting the Saotome Institute. While he evades traps set by Dr. Shikishima, he and his entire team are killed fighting Hayato Jin during this operation.
Regarding character design continuity, Ganryu appeared in the original Getter Robo manga as a nameless character fulfilling a similar role alongside Gozro, differing primarily in physical appearance and the absence of a formal name. The anime adaptation provided expanded characterization and a named identity not present in the source material.
