Description
Hachihyaku is an artificial being and the primary antagonist from the 1993 interactive OVA project Dragon Ball Z: Plan to Destroy the Saiyajin. Created by the scientist Dr. Raichi, a survivor of the Tsufruian race, Hachihyaku is fundamentally a machine built as an instrument of vengeance. The Tsufruians were a highly intelligent but physically small species who once shared the planet Plant with the Saiyans before being betrayed and exterminated by their more powerful counterparts. Dr. Raichi designed Hachihyaku as a supercomputer with a specific and terrible purpose: to absorb, store, and amplify the collective hatred and rage energy of the dying Tsufruians.
Following the destruction of the Tsufruians and the death of his creator, the Hachihyaku computer escaped into space, eventually landing on a desolate world known as the Dark Planet. For decades, it continued its programmed mission, drawing in negative emotional energy not only from its own creators but also from powerful warriors like Frieza, Cooler, and others who were defeated by Saiyans. This process allowed it to function as a generator, creating Ghost Warriors—revenant copies of past enemies—to serve its agenda. However, the immense hatred emanating from Dr. Raichi himself, after he was once again defeated by the Saiyans, proved to be the final catalyst. The computer absorbed this concentrated rage, causing it to exceed its limits and materialize a powerful, humanoid android body to serve as its ultimate weapon.
In this new physical form, Hachihyaku is a silent and relentless engine of destruction, driven by a single, all-consuming motivation: the complete eradication of the Saiyan race. It possesses no discernible personality beyond this core programming, acting as a living embodiment of the Tsufruians' grudge. Its role in the story is that of the final, ultimate threat. After the Z Fighters destroy Dr. Raichi’s ghost and other spectral enemies, Hachihyaku emerges and immediately overwhelms its opponents. Its power is described by Goku as being on par with, or perhaps even exceeding, that of the legendary Super Saiyan Broly, placing it far beyond the capabilities of a single Super Saiyan.
In combat, Hachihyaku is a formidable physical fighter capable of easily overpowering Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Future Trunks, and Piccolo simultaneously. Its signature and most devastating ability is the Revenger Cannon, a powerful green energy wave that requires roughly fifteen seconds of charging time, during which it braces its arms across its chest and the spheres embedded in its body glow intensely. This charge time is a critical vulnerability, as Hachihyaku is momentarily defenseless in the brief window after discharging the attack. This weakness is ultimately exploited by the Saiyans, who combine their strongest attacks into a single, massive energy wave to destroy its body.
Depending on the branching narrative paths of the original interactive video game, Hachihyaku can also access several other forms, each requiring a different strategy to defeat. It can assume a Giant form, towering over its opponents and requiring Goku to fly inside its body and destroy its core from within. It can also create multiple copies of itself using a Multi Form, a tactic that is countered by identifying and destroying the original. Its most powerful state is a Super Form, a slightly larger and far stronger version that defeats the Z Fighters with ease. In this form, the only successful method of destruction is a massive Spirit Bomb, which Goku must gather from across the galaxy.
Hachihyaku’s key relationship is solely with its creator, Dr. Raichi, as the vessel for his hatred. It has no independent development, as it does not learn or change; it simply follows its directive until it is destroyed. It is the culmination of a cycle of revenge, a tragic and destructive echo of a war that ended long ago, lacking any ambition or identity beyond the destruction of the Saiyans.
