Description
Dr. Lychee is the secondary antagonist of the original video animation Dragon Ball Z: Plan to Destroy the Saiyajin. He is a ghostly remnant of a Tuffle scientist, driven by an undying hatred for the Saiyan race. His name is a pun on the lychee fruit.

A member of the highly intelligent Tuffle race, Dr. Lychee was its foremost scientist during its civilization's prime. In Age 730, the Saiyans launched a genocidal attack on the Tuffles, massacring the entire population and seizing their planet, which they renamed Planet Vegeta. During the invasion, Dr. Lychee made a desperate attempt to escape in a capsule with his most significant invention, a supercomputer named Hatchiyack. He was killed during this attempt, but the capsule successfully launched, finding refuge on the Dark Planet, a desolate world at the edge of the universe. On the Dark Planet, the Hatchiyack computer continued its program, using the hatred of the dead Tuffles as fuel. It conceived a series of Ghost Warriors, phantom copies of powerful beings. Among these was a renewed Dr. Lychee, a ghost given form by the computer to fulfill his only wish: the eradication of the last remaining Saiyans.

As a Ghost Warrior, Dr. Lychee's personality is a concentrated manifestation of vengeance. He embodies the Tuffles' righteous fury and despair over their annihilation, with his driving motivation being to exact revenge on the Saiyans for their betrayal and cruelty. He is cunning and strategic, preferring to weaken his enemies through indirect means before confronting them directly. In his plan to destroy the Saiyans, he releases Destron Gas on Earth, a substance that disrupts a warrior's ability to focus their ki. He also uses the Hatchiyack computer to generate Ghost Warriors of past villains like Frieza, Cooler, Turles, and Lord Slug to serve as distractions and obstacles for the Z-Fighters. This entire scheme is a calculated trap designed to lure the last pure-blooded Saiyans—Goku, Vegeta, and their half-Saiyan sons, Gohan and Future Trunks—to the Dark Planet so he can personally destroy them.

In the story, Dr. Lychee serves as the primary antagonist who orchestrates the crisis before the final battle. His key relationship is with his own creation, the Hatchiyack supercomputer, which sustains his existence and generates his army of Ghost Warriors. He also has a deeply personal and adversarial relationship with the Saiyan prince, Vegeta, who, as the embodiment of the race that destroyed his people, is his ultimate target. Upon the Saiyans' arrival on the Dark Planet, Dr. Lychee confronts them. His most notable ability is a powerful, durable green energy barrier known as Dark Spirits, which allows him to withstand combined attacks from multiple Z-Fighters. In the original video game and OVA, his ghost form is also immune to physical attacks. After his barrier is shattered, Vegeta destroys him with a Final Flash attack. As a Ghost Warrior, Dr. Lychee is able to rematerialize, but Vegeta destroys him a second time, leaving only a fragment of him on the ground screaming with hatred. In a final act of spite, this hatred is then absorbed by the Hatchiyack computer, triggering its transformation into a colossal, powerful warrior that becomes the true final threat.
