Description
Sho Kamui is a human-dinosaur hybrid engineered by the Dinosaur Empire using DNA from Emperor Gore and a captured human woman who became his mother. This unique origin grants him status as a prince and marks him as the sole successful hybrid among countless failed experiments. Emperor Gore III held Kamui's mother hostage to secure his compliance, a circumstance profoundly shaping his motivations and emotional core.

Kamui possesses a primarily human physique but displays distinct reptilian traits: scales cover his cheeks, nose, and forehead—forming a crown-like pattern—accompanied by piercing red eyes. This hybrid appearance induces an "uncanny valley" effect, provoking discomfort and alienation among humans. His physiology bestows superhuman strength, speed, durability, and heat resistance surpassing even enhanced humans like Takuma Nagare. He exhibits high tolerance to Getter Radiation, though extreme exposure overwhelms him. As a pilot, he specializes in high-speed combat, primarily operating Getter Kirik within Getter Robo Arc.

Personality-wise, Kamui maintains a cold, professional demeanor, adhering strictly to orders and displaying minimal patience for incompetence. He masks intense emotions beneath this icy facade, particularly volatile anger when his heritage is questioned, sometimes triggering violent reactions. Despite his aloofness, he harbors a profound bond with his human mother; her safety and freedom become his driving motivation. Humans at the Saotome Institute perceive him as a weapon, not a comrade, reinforcing his isolation. His relationship with teammate Takuma remains strained, evolving only into effective teamwork devoid of genuine friendship.

Kamui's story begins under Gore III's rule. Following a truce brokered by Hayato Jin, he relocates to the Saotome Institute. After time-traveling with Getter Robo Arc, he witnesses a future where the genocidal Getter Emperor has eradicated all non-human life, including the Dinosaur Empire. This revelation, coupled with Carter McDonald's proposal, drives Kamui to betray the Saotome Institute. He orchestrates a coup against Gore III—seizing control of the Dinosaur Empire without killing his brother—and launches war against humanity. He oversees the completion of the superweapon Bug, unleashing it to devastate human cities.

Key divergences exist between manga and anime. In the manga, Kamui orders the execution of all human prisoners, including his mother; she dies shielding him from an assassin, an act hardening his resolve to eradicate humanity. The anime depicts him explicitly condemning his mother but shows her dying while protecting him during a confrontation, intensifying his internal conflict. The anime also introduces childhood friends among Dinosaur Empire pilots and expands his political maneuvering against Gore III.

The narrative concludes with Kamui's defeat by the evolved Getter Dragon (Saint Dragon) and subsequent imprisonment. An anime-exclusive post-credits scene shows Takuma and Baku freeing him from a Martian prison; the trio unites to confront Getter Ten, symbolizing a partial reconciliation and shared defiance against fate.
