Description
Monoyoshi Sadamune is a short sword manifested as a young man in the second season of the anime Zoku Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru. His historical origin lies in the real-world wakizashi forged by the master swordsmith Sadamune, which was owned by the Edo shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. According to legend, whenever Ieyasu carried this blade into battle, he would achieve great success, and the sword was given the name Monoyoshi, meaning good thing or object of fortune, because of this perceived ability to bring about favorable outcomes. This theme of good fortune is the central pillar of Monoyoshi Sadamune's personality. He is cheerful, optimistic, and genuinely lucky in a way that affects the world around him. Small fortunate coincidences follow him naturally, such as laundry blown away by the wind landing neatly in a basket or tasks resolving smoothly without effort. He does not flaunt this quality but accepts it as a simple part of who he is, and he takes quiet satisfaction in using his luck to help others. His motivation stems from a desire to be useful to his comrades. He does not seek recognition or leadership; instead, he finds contentment in supporting those around him and contributing to the peaceful, harmonious atmosphere of the citadel. In the story, he arrives at the Hanamaru citadel as a new swordsman alongside Houchou Toushirou during the second season. His introduction is handled by Kashuu Kiyomitsu, who shows him around. As Kashuu guides him, a series of small but unaccountably lucky events occur, which immediately establishes Monoyoshi's distinctive trait to both the audience and the other characters. His role is that of a supporting figure. He is not a central protagonist in the overarching narrative, but he receives a featured role in the episode focused on his arrival and adjustment, and his presence in the ensemble reinforces the lighthearted, slice-of-life tone of the series. He builds bonds with the other swords through everyday activities rather than dramatic battles, and his reliable good nature makes him an easy person to welcome. In terms of development, Monoyoshi does not undergo a radical transformation. His journey is one of integration: learning the routines of the citadel, forming friendships, and finding his place among a large and varied group of personalities. His growth is subtle and expressed through increased confidence in his own worth as a member of the team. Regarding abilities, his most notable trait is not combat prowess but his supernatural luck, which manifests as a passive influence on events. While he is still a capable sword in battle as a Token Danshi, his luck is what sets him apart in the story and defines his interactions. It is a gentle, almost whimsical power that aligns with the series' emphasis on cheerful daily life rather than intense conflict. His presence consistently lightens the mood and resolves minor problems before they escalate.
