Description
Astarte is a homunculus, an artificial being created through alchemy, who appears as a central figure in the conflicts of Strike the Blood II. Her existence is defined by her creation as a tool for combat, specifically designed to host and control a powerful Beast Vassal, a type of familiar. This familiar is known as Rhododactylos, and Astarte wields it as her primary weapon, demonstrating the ability to command it as if it were an extension of her own body. In her early appearances, she serves a master named Rudolf Eustach, a European exorcist who deploys her to fight against other supernatural beings, including the sword shaman Yukina Himeragi.

Astarte's personality is a direct reflection of her nature as a homunculus. She is typically quiet, reserved, and displays a distinct lack of emotional expression, often seeming detached from the events around her. This is not due to malice but rather an artifact of her artificial creation and her purpose as a weapon, which leaves her with a limited understanding of human social cues and emotions. Despite this, she is not portrayed as evil or cruel; instead, she is a figure of circumstance, following the orders of her master without question because that is the only purpose she has ever known.

Her motivations are simple and tied directly to her role. Initially, she acts to fulfill the long-standing wishes of her master, Rudolf, engaging in battles against protagonists Kojou Akatsuki and Yukina Himeragi. Her role in the story begins primarily as an antagonist and a formidable combatant whose power forces Kojou to confront and unleash the true potential of his own nature as the Fourth Primogenitor, a powerful vampire. Over time, her role evolves as she is separated from her original master. She becomes less of a direct threat and more of a complex figure caught in the supernatural politics of the world. On one occasion, she attempted to intervene during a terrorist attack in a medical room, using her familiar to try and stop the abductors, but she was shot and injured, illustrating her willingness to act despite her vulnerable position. She also shows a capacity for cooperation, working alongside other characters such as the alchemist Natsuki to confront mutual enemies.

Key relationships define her development. Her bond with her creator and first master, Rudolf Eustach, is one of absolute servitude, where she is treated as a tool to be used in battle. Her encounters with Kojou Akatsuki and Yukina Himeragi are significant, as they are the first to treat her not just as a weapon but as a person. Through these interactions, particularly the care she receives after being defeated, she begins a slow process of development, gaining more autonomy and forming her own connections. She is seen in the company of other characters like Nagisa Akatsuki and the injured Asagi Aiba, indicating her integration into a wider social circle beyond her initial purpose as a combat homunculus.

In terms of notable abilities, Astarte's primary power is her command over her Beast Vassal, Rhododactylos. This familiar is a formidable entity capable of immense destruction, making her a significant threat in battle. Her control over this beast is precise, allowing her to launch devastating attacks with surgical accuracy. Beyond this, as a homunculus, she possesses an artificial body that is resilient and can withstand damage that would be fatal to a normal human. Her very physiology is tied to her creation, and she requires specific care or conditions to survive, further setting her apart from naturally born beings. Her journey throughout the series is one of slowly gaining her own identity, moving from being a nameless tool to an individual with her own connections and a tentative place in the world.
