Description
Maya Kitajima is the main protagonist of The Glass Mask Year 3 Class D, a comedic spin-off that transports the characters from the classic Glass Mask universe into a modern high school setting. In this series, Maya is a teenager with long pink hair and pink eyes who attends Class D alongside her rivals and friends. Her background is rooted in the original story: she was a naturally gifted young actress discovered by the legendary diva Chigusa Tsukikage, and she worked as a waitress to support herself and her mentally unstable mother, Haru, who constantly dismissed her as useless. Maya’s father died when she was young. In Year 3 Class D, these backstory elements are implied but treated lightly, as the focus shifts to her role as a spirited high school student.

Personality-wise, Maya is hardworking, passionate, and deeply dedicated to the art of acting. She is often described as unremarkable in daily life but transforms completely when she steps on stage, immersing herself so fully in her roles that she practically becomes the character. This natural ability—sometimes called "the stage storm"—allows her to captivate audiences even when she is not the lead. Despite her immense talent, Maya remains humble and unaware of her own brilliance, often feeling inferior to her polished rival Ayumi Himekawa. She does not hold grudges and is generally kind-hearted, though she can be stubborn and single-minded when pursuing a role.

Her primary motivation in Year 3 Class D is to ignite a passion for drama among the disinterested modern students. Having been teleported from her original world along with Ayumi, Chigusa Tsukikage, and Yuu Sakurakouji, she sees it as her mission to warm the cold hearts of her classmates through the power of performance. This goal mirrors her original drive to prove her worth as an actress and to pursue the legendary role of the Crimson Goddess, but here it is adapted to the school setting.

Maya’s role in the story is as the energetic heart of the group. She often takes the lead in organizing or participating in theatrical activities, facing intense auditions and demanding roles with unwavering dedication. Her relationships are central: she shares a friendly but competitive dynamic with Ayumi Himekawa, who respects her as a rival; she looks up to her mentor Chigusa Tsukikage, who continues to guide her; she interacts with Yuu Sakurakouji, a supporting friend; and she has a complicated dynamic with Masumi Hayami, the young president of Daito Art Production, who secretly supports her as an anonymous fan sending purple roses. In Year 3 Class D, these relationships are maintained in a lighter, comedic tone.

Development-wise, Maya grows by learning to adapt her intense theatrical passion to a high school environment. She faces the pressures of competition and the challenge of engaging apathetic classmates, but her perseverance and innate charisma often win others over. Her notable abilities remain her raw acting talent, her emotional depth, her ability to physically and mentally embody characters, and her unconventional yet effective approaches to performance—such as lying on the floor to "sit" on a toppled chair during training. She is also known for her nicknames "the girl with a thousand masks" (for her versatility) and "little child" (used affectionately by Masumi Hayami). In Year 3 Class D, these traits are showcased in a comedic, school-based context, reinforcing her role as a passionate protagonist determined to share her love of drama.
