Description
Hayato Kuroshio is a character from the anime Zegapain ADP. He is a male student with gray eyes and short, gray hair, identifiable as a second-year student by the green tie he wears as part of his school uniform. At his high school, he serves as a student council officer.

His background is tied directly to the war fought by the Celebrants. Hayato is a member of the Cerebrum and an operator of the battleship Okeanos. He is one of the oldest crew members and was originally a pilot for a prototype Zegapain developed by Shima. In his early days as a gunner, he was an exceptionally skilled pilot whose combat record, in terms of enemy kills, once surpassed even that of the protagonist, Kyo Sogoru. He originally belonged to the Shizuoka server and has been rebooted several times.

Despite his past achievements, Hayato’s personality is defined by a deep-seated weariness with his life as a Celebrant. He is depicted as a pessimist who feels tired of the endless battles and the nature of his existence. A central facet of his character is his profound fear of death. This fear leads him to oppose the idea of materialization, which is a risky process of regaining a physical body, and he instead advocates for surrendering to the enemy force, the Gards-orm. This perspective puts him at odds with those who choose to keep fighting.

Hayato’s role in the story is that of a veteran soldier who has been worn down by conflict. The repeated battles have severely damaged his phantom data, rendering him unable to continue serving as a frontline gunner. This physical limitation prevents him from piloting but does not remove him from the crew, as he continues to serve as a bridge operator. His key relationships are primarily with the core members of the Okeanos. He has a significant past connection with Shima, the developer of the Zegapain, and fights alongside comrades like Kyo Sogoru. In Zegapain ADP, his active days as a Zegapain gunner are depicted alongside Ayaka Irie, who serves as his wizard, or support partner.

His character undergoes development when he learns the true identity of his comrade, Shima. This revelation causes him to shift his perspective, moving away from his defeated stance of advocating surrender. Instead, he decides to join Kyo and the others in a new aim to truly live, choosing the more hopeful path of pursuing life despite the risks. His notable abilities, though largely in the past due to his damaged data, included being a highly skilled and excellent Zegapain pilot with an impressive record of enemy kills.
