TV Special
Description
Akari Kuzehashi is the home economics teacher who also serves as the homeroom instructor for class 2-A at the high school the main characters attend. She first appears in a brief cameo during the final episode of the first anime series, with her role becoming significantly larger in the second season and continuing into related media such as Kinmoza!: Pretty Days! and the film Kinmoza the Movie: Thank You!!. Akari has brown hair and brown eyes, often styled in a side ponytail secured with a pink scrunchy. She consistently wears a business suit to school, presenting a formal and professional image that contrasts with the more relaxed clothing of some fellow teachers.
Despite her gentle soul and deep affection for anything cute, Akari’s unintentionally intimidating glare or scowl frequently frightens or unnerves the students she wishes to bond with. This contrast between her kind inner nature and her stern outward expression becomes a recurring source of frustration, as her sincere attempts to get closer to her students are often misinterpreted. She is highly serious and dedicated to her work as an educator, maintaining a professional attitude and not letting personal desires interfere with her classroom responsibilities.
Her primary motivation is to be a good teacher and connect meaningfully with her students. Her most significant relationship is with her student Karen Kujō. They initially start off on the wrong foot due to their opposite personalities, but eventually find common ground through their shared difficulty with facial expressions. Karen actively tries to help Akari learn to smile more naturally, and while Akari remains strict with Karen when it comes to homework or academic matters, she is considered the teacher closest to her among the staff. Akari also maintains a professional relationship with her colleague Sakura Karasuma, often seeking her advice and admiring how easily Sakura connects with students. Another colleague, Youko Inokuma, addresses her by the nickname Kusshi-chan.
Throughout the series, Akari undergoes noticeable development, primarily through her interactions with Karen. Her character arc focuses on softening her stern exterior, and by later points in the story, her presence no longer automatically intimidates students, reflecting her improved ability to express her genuine, kind-hearted self. In her personal life, she owns a pet cat. During her own school years, she was a member of the track team. Her birthday is July 24, and she stands 165 centimeters tall.
