Description
Jurōjin is a member of the Friday Club, a group of powerful tengu in Kyoto who have adopted the names of the Seven Lucky Gods. True to his chosen name, Jurōjin is associated with longevity, a trait reflected in his advanced age, as he is a man seeing his 120th birthday. He plays a supporting but significant role in the conflicts of the second season, often appearing alongside the human Benten, with whom he shares a close and somewhat conspiratorial alliance.

In his role within the Friday Club, Jurōjin is depicted as a cunning and potentially deceptive figure. He and Benten appear to have jointly orchestrated a scheme against Sōun Ebisugawa, a fellow club member who sought to usurp power and status. This plan involved tricking Sōun, suggesting that Jurōjin is not merely a passive elder but an active player in the club's internal politics, one who finds amusement or strategic advantage in the downfall of a corrupt colleague. His motivations lean toward maintaining a certain order or simply participating in elaborate deceptions, aligning himself with Benten, whose own motives are often inscrutable and driven by a desire for entertainment.

Jurōjin possesses notable magical abilities befitting a powerful tengu. He commands a train, which he uses as a vehicle to travel through Kyoto, and in the climactic events of the season, he demonstrates the capacity to open a portal to hell. This fearsome ability is used in collaboration with Benten; she personally opens his hell portal to dispatch the antagonist Sōun and another character, Tenmaya, to their ultimate fates. This act underscores his decisive role in the story's resolution, as his power becomes the instrument of final judgment for those who threaten the established order. His key relationship is with Benten, as their partnership proves crucial to the narrative, while his actions directly affect the fate of Sōun Ebisugawa, positioning him as an adversary to the disgraced Friday Club member.
