Description
Eguile is a supporting character in the anime Tales of Zestiria the X. He is a leading member of both the Sparrowfeathers merchant guild and the Scattered Bones assassin guild, serving as the right hand to Rose, the leader of these organizations.
In terms of background, Eguile was once a prominent member of a mercenary band known as the Windriders. Five years before the main events of the story, the Windriders were betrayed by Prince Konan of the Rolance Empire, which led to the execution of their leader, Brad, who was also Rose's foster father. Eguile was captured and faced a similar fate but managed to escape. Following this tragedy, Rose formed the Sparrowfeathers and the Scattered Bones, and Eguile joined her new family, becoming a crucial figure in both guilds.
Physically, Eguile is a tall man with short, slightly messy gray hair, a beard visible on his chin and cheeks, and green or light blue eyes. His typical attire is the captain's uniform of the Sparrowfeathers, which consists of a brown leather vest worn over a black shirt, complemented by a red tie.
Eguile's personality is defined by his deep loyalty to the guilds, which he considers his family. He is a dependable and strategic figure, responsible for the business affairs of the Scattered Bones and for ensuring the safety of his family, including searching for new hideouts when necessary. He is described by Rose as the eyes, ears, and brain of the Scattered Bones, highlighting his role as a tactician and her most trusted advisor. Eguile has complete faith in Rose's judgments and does not question her choices, acting as a steady and supportive substitute when needed. He also served as a teacher to Rose, having taught her everything she knows about martial arts.
His primary motivation is the protection and well-being of his guild family. This is evident in his actions, such as when he deliberately gets captured to allow another member, Ayn Talfryn, to escape and find help. While he is an assassin, his actions are driven by a sense of family loyalty and justice, continuing the creed he learned from his time in the Windriders.
In the story, Eguille is introduced when the Sparrowfeathers' carriage is destroyed by wolves, blocking the road to Ladylake. He later assists the protagonist Sorey by helping to stop the hellion Lunarre and facilitating Sorey's escape from the Roundtable Palace. He also tests Sorey's abilities, confronting him in a battle on the Rayfalke Spiritcrest while disguised, during which he is defeated and saved by Rose. In a later turn of events, Eguille and several other guild members are betrayed by Lunarre and captured by the Rolance government, who falsely accuse the Scattered Bones of murder. He is ultimately rescued by Rose and her companions.
Eguille's key relationships revolve around his family within the guilds. His most significant bond is with Rose, whom he serves faithfully and has mentored. He is also a senior figure to the other members, including Rosh and the twins Ayn Talfryn and Ayn Felice, and he consistently acts to protect them.
His character shows a strong sense of responsibility and self-sacrifice, though his core nature as a loyal protector remains consistent throughout the story. As a human without the high level of resonance needed to see seraphim, Eguille relies on his physical skills and martial arts in combat. He is a skilled fighter, proficient in the use of daggers as his primary weapon. His abilities are the result of his background as a mercenary and assassin, making him a capable and formidable presence in physical confrontations.
