Description
Jigen is the public-facing leader of the secretive organization Kara and serves as the primary vessel for Isshiki Otsutsuki. Originally, he was a novice monk who lived during the time of Kaguya Otsutsuki's arrival on Earth centuries ago. After Kaguya betrayed Isshiki and left him for dead, the dying Otsutsuki assaulted Jigen, shrinking himself and entering the monk's body through his ear to survive. Isshiki then implanted his Karma seal on Jigen, using him as a host. However, because Jigen's body was not powerful enough to handle Isshiki's full strength, Isshiki chose not to revive himself immediately and instead waited to find a more suitable vessel while maintaining control over Jigen. Over time, Isshiki's complete takeover of Jigen's mind and body granted the monk's form immensely enhanced longevity, allowing him to persist for over a thousand years.

In terms of personality, Jigen presents himself as formal, courteous, and composed. He addresses members of Kara politely and even extends manners to his enemies, once apologizing for not removing his shoes when entering someone's home. Despite this veneer of civility, he is deeply amoral and remorseless, caring nothing for the innocent lives sacrificed to achieve his goals. He has an irritable side and can lash out violently when his plans encounter setbacks. As a father figure to his adoptive son Kawaki, Jigen is cruel and manipulative. He purchased Kawaki from his abusive biological father for a large sum of money and promised him safety, but then subjected the boy to brutal training to master the Karma seal, constantly berating him as having value only as a vessel and striking him whenever he questioned orders.

Jigen's primary motivation is to fulfill Isshiki Otsutsuki's grand design. He establishes and leads Kara, a clandestine organization, to help achieve this goal. His core objective is to find a suitable new vessel for Isshiki's resurrection, as his own body is too weak to serve that purpose permanently. He orchestrates experiments, aided by the Kara scientist Amado, to transfer Karma to numerous children, with Kawaki being the only known successful subject. Additionally, Isshiki (operating through Jigen) plots to feed Jigen's body and himself to the Ten-Tails to make it bloom into a God Tree and produce a Chakra Fruit, even though the result would be of lower quality due to the host's physical inadequacy.

Jigen's role in the story is that of the primary antagonist leading the Kara organization. He is the one who sets the plot in motion by creating Kawaki as a vessel and relentlessly pursuing him after the boy escapes to Konohagakure. His confrontation with Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha is a pivotal event, as he demonstrates power that surpasses both legendary shinobi, ultimately defeating them and sealing Naruto away. Throughout the narrative, his identity as Isshiki's vessel is gradually revealed, establishing him not as the ultimate enemy himself, but as the host for an even greater Otsutsuki threat. His key relationships include being the leader of Kara's Inner members such as Delta, Boro, Victor, and Code, the adoptive father and abusive mentor of Kawaki, and the unwilling host and puppet of Isshiki Otsutsuki. In terms of development, Jigen's character is defined by the tragic loss of his original identity. What remains of the original monk is ultimately overwhelmed and subsumed by Isshiki. His time as the primary antagonist ends when he is confronted by Koji Kashin, a creation of Amado designed to destroy Isshiki. Weakened significantly from his battle with Naruto and Sasuke, Jigen is burned to ashes by Koji's fire techniques, bringing about the end of his physical form.

Jigen possesses a terrifying array of abilities, almost all of which are derived from the power of Isshiki Otsutsuki channeled through his body. His body has also been extensively modified with Scientific Ninja Tools by Amado. He wields a Karma seal on his chin that, when activated, spreads across his entire body in black markings and grants him access to Isshiki's powers. In its advanced stage, he grows a horn on his head similar to Isshiki's. His signature abilities come from Isshiki's distinctive right eye. Sukunahikona allows him to instantly shrink any non-living matter to microscopic sizes and restore it to normal just as quickly. Daikokuten is a related technique that lets him store those shrunken objects in a timeless pocket dimension and summon them back at will. He uses these abilities in combat to launch tiny black rods imperceptibly into opponents, then enlarge them to cause catastrophic internal injuries. He can also shrink himself to move at microscopic sizes, effectively teleporting around the battlefield and surprising even the most skilled opponents like Naruto and Sasuke. He possesses a Space-Time Ninjutsu that allows him to open portals between dimensions and can levitate. From his personal dimension, he can deploy a massive sealing coffin whose lid descends from the sky to trap opponents. Jigen is also an exceptionally skilled hand-to-hand combatant with tremendous strength, speed, and durability, able to casually kick away Naruto in Six Paths Sage Mode and take a kick to the jaw from him without injury. He can use genjutsu to communicate with multiple people over vast distances, and his chakra is so overwhelmingly sinister that sensing it alone caused Ino Yamanaka to nearly collapse. Despite this immense power, the fundamental weakness of Jigen's body remains: it is a flawed vessel that cannot sustain Isshiki's full strength for extended periods, leading to severe chakra depletion and physical degradation after major battles.
