Description
Amado Sanzu is a central figure in the narrative of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, recognized primarily as a former high-ranking scientist of the covert organization known as Kara. He served as the head of Kara’s research and development division and held the title of an Inner, the organization's core leadership. His departure from Kara and subsequent defection to Konohagakure, the Hidden Leaf Village, marks a major turning point in the story, as he brings with him a wealth of critical intelligence about his former masters.

In terms of appearance, Amado is a middle-aged man with a full head of white or gray hair and a matching beard. He is almost always seen wearing a dark, long-sleeved shirt and trousers, along with a distinctive pair of glasses with orange-tinted lenses. A chain necklace is also a constant part of his attire.

Amado’s personality is defined by a profound and often unsettling calm. He is exceptionally stoic and detached, rarely displaying strong emotions even in high-pressure situations. This composure makes him difficult to read, and he maintains a very blunt and direct manner of speaking, willing to state his views without concern for how others perceive him. While he is polite and speaks respectfully, his actions reveal a deeply pragmatic and calculating mind. He prioritizes results and efficiency, believing that failing projects should be abandoned in favor of new approaches. He is a master strategist and manipulator, often creating problems to which he alone can offer the solution, thereby securing his position and leverage. Despite his intimidating intellect, Amado has shown a twisted sense of humor and has admitted he is not brave enough to endure torture, valuing survival over pride.

The singular, driving motivation behind all of Amado’s actions is the death of his daughter, Akebi. She succumbed to an incurable disease, leaving Amado grief-stricken and obsessed with finding a way to bring her back. His initial attempts involved cloning, creating a series of copies that perfectly resembled Akebi and even possessed her memories. However, each clone, including one named Delta, developed a distinct and different personality, proving to Amado that the true essence of his daughter was lost forever. This failure led him to accept an offer from Jigen, the leader of Kara, who promised to use his power to grant Amado’s wish in exchange for his scientific expertise. Amado later discovered that Jigen’s true plan, orchestrated by the Otsutsuki god Isshiki, would result in the destruction of the Earth, making his daughter’s resurrection meaningless. This realization shifted his primary goal from simply reviving Akebi to destroying Isshiki Otsutsuki to save the planet, all while still seeking a method to restore his daughter using the Otsutsuki’s advanced technology, specifically the Karma seal.

Amado’s role in the story is that of a catalyst and a wildcard. He is the architect behind much of the series’ technological advancements and conflicts. After defecting to Konoha, he traded his knowledge for the Seventh Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki’s, protection. He provided the village with the means to defeat Isshiki Otsutsuki, including a drug to weaken his Byakugan, and offered crucial intel on the Kara’s operations and the true nature of the Otsutsuki clan. However, his allegiance remains ambiguous, as he continues to pursue his own secret agenda, often manipulating allies and enemies alike to serve his endgame.

Amado’s key relationships are largely transactional and defined by his goals. His relationship with his deceased daughter, Akebi, is the emotional core of his character. He views his creation Delta, a clone of Akebi, with a mixture of annoyance at her violent personality and a lingering, solemn longing for the daughter she was meant to be. His former partnership with Jigen and Isshiki was one of mutual exploitation, which he ultimately betrayed. Within Kara, he secretly created Kashin Koji, a clone of the legendary ninja Jiraiya, as a covert agent to destroy Isshiki. After defecting, he works with Konoha’s leadership, including Naruto Uzumaki and Shikamaru Nara, who constantly remain suspicious of his true intentions. He has a particularly complex relationship with Kawaki, a former experimental subject and vessel for Isshiki. Amado extensively modified Kawaki’s body with scientific ninja tools and later secretly reimplanted a Karma seal on him, intending to use it as a weapon and a tool for his daughter’s resurrection.

Throughout the story, Amado’s character undergoes a distinct development. He begins as a desperate, grieving father who aligns with a villainous organization for a chance to save his daughter. Upon realizing the existential threat posed by the Otsutsuki, he becomes a turncoat who risks his life to defect and provide the heroes with the means to fight back. Even after finding asylum, he does not settle into a role of a simple ally. Instead, he evolves into an even more ambiguous figure, continuing to scheme and manipulate events from the shadows, always thinking several steps ahead to ensure his ultimate wish is fulfilled, regardless of the cost to others.

Amado’s abilities are not rooted in traditional ninja combat or chakra-based techniques. Instead, his power lies in his unparalleled scientific genius. He is a technological prodigy whose skills far surpass even the leading scientists of the Hidden Leaf. His expertise encompasses a vast array of fields, including advanced biology, cybernetics, and weaponry. He was responsible for modifying the bodies of all of Kara’s Inner members, integrating microscopic scientific ninja tools into their very circulatory and nervous systems. He has demonstrated the ability to create powerful androids and cyborgs, including Delta, Kashin Koji, and others like Ada and Daemon, whose abilities are so potent they are considered on par with or even exceeding that of an Otsutsuki. Amado has also reverse-engineered Otsutsuki abilities, known as Shinjutsu, by studying the remains of the deity-like Shibai Otsutsuki. Among his many inventions are a sound device capable of repelling ninjutsu, a powerful sedative administered through his glove, remote-detonated explosives, and a specialized cybernetic eye that cannot be replicated by transformation techniques. He also possesses the ability to install emergency shutdown commands in his creations, granting him ultimate control over them. Despite his genius, Amado has no notable combat skills and relies entirely on his technology and intellect to survive.
