Description
Momo Akanegakubo, often referred to simply as Momo, is a third-year student of the 90th generation at Totsuki Culinary Academy who holds the position of the fourth seat on the Elite Ten Council, later promoted to the third seat during the administration of Azami Nakiri. She comes from a wealthy family and grew up pampered, rarely having her choices questioned, which contributed to her development as an elitist and perfectionist. Momo possesses a small, doll-like appearance with purple hair often tied in twin tails and is almost always seen carrying a stuffed bear she calls Bucchi. Despite her cute exterior, she is shy around strangers but displays a sharp, sometimes venomous tongue once she warms up, and she habitually gives dismissive nicknames to those she considers inferior, often adding suffixes such as nyan or myan. Her love for all things cute is central to her personality; she became a patissier because she believes sweets are the cutest type of food and that she herself looks cutest when making them. This obsession extends to her professional work as well; her extraordinary sensibility for cuteness means that any product she endorses is virtually guaranteed to become a commercial success. Momo is highly arrogant and looks down on most of her peers, but her pride is backed by genuine skill as the academy’s foremost confectionery expert. She is a gifted patissier who creates desserts that are both visually exquisite and intensely flavorful, relying on meticulous technique and an instinctive understanding of sweetness, texture, and presentation. Her role in the story is primarily as a member of the old Elite Ten who aligns herself with the Central regime during the conflict that follows Azami’s takeover. In the Regiment de Cuisine, she faces off against Megumi Tadokoro in a shokugeki focused on desserts. Momo’s relationship with Megumi is characterized by condescension; she dismisses Megumi as a mere cute junior, but during the match she is forced to acknowledge Megumi’s growth as a chef. Momo also interacts with other Elite Ten members, such as Nene Kinokuni and Rindo Kobayashi, and she tends to keep to herself within the council. Her motivations are driven by a desire to perfect her craft and to surround herself only with things she deems cute—including her own cooking. Over the course of the series, Momo undergoes little personal development; she remains steadfast in her worldview and style even after the fall of the Central regime, graduating and moving on without a fundamental change in character. She is capable of surprising ruthlessness when practicality demands it, such as tearing off Bucchi’s arms to use as mitts when handling hot pans, a stark contrast to her otherwise adorable image. In the OVA Totsuki Jukketsu, Momo appears as part of the formal gathering where the Elite Ten are introduced to the top-performing first-years, showcasing her aloof and haughty demeanor from the very beginning.
