TV-Series
Description
Hiroyuki Sasano is an elderly resident of Sakurada who appears later in the series. He is a small man with grey hair, and his advanced age is one of his most immediately noticeable features.

Sasano possesses a unique ability centered around a specific model of camera he uses. Photographs taken with this device are imbued with his power, allowing anyone to physically enter the world captured within the image. To activate this effect, a person must tear the photograph, which then grants access to a ten-minute recreation of the moment it depicts. While inside this photographic scenario, individuals can experience the past event firsthand, though the effects of any changes made within the photo on the real world remain unclear.

Sasano was involved with the Administrative Bureau during its early years, and his history ties him directly to some of Sakurada’s most significant figures. Notably, he shared a relationship with the character known as the Witch, or Oracle, when they were younger. His past connection to the Bureau and its founders positions him as someone with deep knowledge of the town’s secretive operations.

When he learns that the protagonist, Kei Asai, possesses a certain item known as the MacGuffin, Sasano makes contact in an attempt to regain an ability that was sealed away from him. This loss of his power is a driving motivation for his actions, and he seeks Kei’s help to restore what was taken. His personality is generally that of a pleasant old man, and he maintains a calm demeanor even when engaging in complex and long-term planning.

Sasano’s role in the story is closely linked to a photograph he owns depicting Souma Sumire, a person of great importance to Kei, on a beach where they once made a promise. This image represents a potential opportunity for Kei to encounter her again. Furthermore, Sasano demonstrated a remarkable application of his ability by traveling twenty-eight years into the past to meet a much younger version of the Witch who lives inside one of his photos. Together, they formulated an elaborate, long-game plan to deal with the Bureau’s attempts to control him. He participated in this scheme without resistance, complying with the Witch’s advice to surrender his photos when the Bureau came for them, all as part of a larger strategy.
