Description
Nene Fujinoki is a supporting character in the romantic comedy series My First Girlfriend Is a Gal. She is the childhood friend and neighbor of the main protagonist, Junichi Hashiba, and has harbored a long-standing romantic crush on him. Her appearance is distinctive for her short but curvaceous stature; she originally has brown hair worn in a bun, but later in the story she dyes her hair pink and styles it into twin tails in an effort to adopt the gal fashion associated with Junichi’s girlfriend, Yukana Yame. This physical transformation is a direct reflection of her motivation to make Junichi notice her romantically.

In terms of personality, Nene is generally kind, caring, and eager to please others, though she also desires to be pleased in return. She is open and self-confident when interacting with Junichi, sometimes even making bold advances or offering her body to him in attempts to win his affection. However, she tends to be more reserved and shy around people other than Junichi. Despite her own feelings, she often supports Junichi and Yukana’s relationship, acting as a source of guidance and occasionally encouraging the couple to work through their problems.

Her role in the story is that of a love rival and a catalyst for romantic tension. She initially appears as an obstacle to the main couple, but over time she develops a friendly dynamic with Yukana as well. Her key relationships include her childhood bond with Junichi, her rivalry and eventual friendship with Yukana, and her peer connection with Ranko Honjō, another of Junichi’s love interests.

Nene’s development centers on her struggle with unrequited love and her gradual acceptance of Junichi’s feelings for Yukana. She undergoes a notable change in appearance to try to emulate Yukana, demonstrating her determination and willingness to reinvent herself. While she does not possess any supernatural or extraordinary abilities, she is characterized as a typical high school student with a strong sense of loyalty and a quiet persistence. She is occasionally described as a member of the student council and the captain of the school’s tennis club, indicating a responsible and active role in her school life.
