Description
Eiji Kashii, known as the Ox or Ushii in the Zodiac War, is a primary participant in the deadly tournament. He is a tall and lean man with a stoic and morose demeanor, often described as gloomy and analytical. His physical appearance is notable for his long dark brown hair, which has red undertones on the inside, and his dark grey eyes which are often accompanied by dark circles beneath them. He stands at 181 centimeters and carries himself with the calm, intimidating presence of a seasoned warrior.

Widely regarded by other warriors as a genius of slaughter, Eiji has been a prodigy in combat since childhood. His reputation precedes him, and many of the other fighters acknowledge his immense strength and quick-witted strategic mind as a major threat in the competition. His cold and logical outlook on life forms the core of his personality. He is presented as a levelheaded individual who does not rely on emotion but on a strict personal philosophy to guide his actions. This philosophy is centered on righteousness; Eiji believes that righteous action requires righteous intent. He lives by a simple, two-step code: first, decide to do the right thing, and second, do that right thing. For him, inaction or a lack of clear intent is what leads to evil.

His motivation for fighting and killing stems from this desire to perform what he believes is morally correct. While he has killed many people, he does not see these acts as indiscriminate slaughter but as a form of systematic righteousness. This perspective was shaped by his long history as a warrior in war zones. In the tournament, his approach is methodical, earning him the title of "Ushi, Killing Systematically". He does not fight for chaos but follows a logical path to achieve his goals. In one instance, upon discovering the presence of a necromancer among the fighters, he resolved to kill all the other participants as a form of mercy, believing this was the only way to prevent them from being desecrated after death.

A key relationship in Eiji's story is with Kanae Aira, the Tiger. They share a past connection from a war zone where Eiji saved her life, initially mistaking her for a lost child. He helped her regain her sense of purpose and direction, an act that left a profound and lasting impression on her. In the present of the Zodiac War, Tiger enters the tournament specifically to find him. Their dynamic reveals a more compassionate side to Eiji. Despite his fearsome reputation and detached nature, he shows respect for his opponents. He is capable of compassion, as demonstrated by his past with Tiger, and holds a genuine affection for her. Their story arc culminates in a tragic confrontation where Eiji is forced to kill Tiger himself, not out of malice, but to save her from the horrific fate of being turned into a mindless puppet by the Rabbit.

Regarding his abilities, Eiji is primarily a strategist and a highly proficient hand-to-hand combatant. His strength is not derived from any explicitly supernatural or magical power, but from sheer physical prowess honed over a lifetime of systematic killing. He is intelligent and quick-witted, able to analyze situations and opponents rapidly to find the most efficient path to victory. His fighting style is direct and lethal, reflecting his no-nonsense, logical personality. Over the course of the story, Eiji develops little in terms of changing his worldview; rather, his development is in the reaffirmation of his philosophy through extreme circumstances. His relationship with Tiger forces him to confront the personal cost of his righteous path, and his decision to end her life with his own hands is portrayed as the ultimate execution of his principle to do the right thing, even at tremendous personal cost.
