Description
Misaki Kuramoto is a supporting character in the Free! franchise, introduced in the film Free! -Take Your Marks-. He is a young elementary-school-aged boy from Tokyo with short brown hair and reddish amber eyes. He first appears when Haruka Nanase and Makoto Tachibana visit a potential apartment for Haruka in the city. Misaki happens to be at the apartment because he is looking for the previous tenant, Nao Serizawa, who had been giving him swimming advice and encouragement. Misaki hopes that Haruka and Makoto, whom he recognizes as capable swimmers, can help him improve as well.

His primary motivation is to become a better swimmer. He is eager, earnest, and unafraid to approach older swimmers for guidance. In the story, his presence serves to highlight Haruka and Makoto’s transition to life in Tokyo and their natural roles as mentors. Misaki’s encounter with them underscores the theme of passing on a love for swimming to the next generation.

Later, in the television series Free! Dive to the Future, Misaki reappears as a student at the swimming school where Makoto works, showing his continued dedication to the sport and his ongoing connection with Makoto. This relationship develops from a brief meeting into a more formal student-coach dynamic.

In terms of abilities, Misaki is a young swimmer still in the process of learning proper technique. He does not demonstrate any standout competitive feats, but his determination and enthusiasm for swimming are evident. His role is that of a younger character who benefits from the experience and kindness of the main cast, and his development is shown through his sustained involvement in swimming under Makoto’s guidance.
