Description
Byron Love, whose Japanese name is Afuro Terumi and who is also known by the divine epithet Aphrodi, is a prominent character in the Inazuma Eleven series, appearing as the captain and forward for Zeus Junior High in Inazuma Eleven Ares no Tenbin. He is a player of exceptional skill, known for an elegant and almost otherworldly playing style that has earned him the nickname Aphrodite, reflecting his beautiful appearance and godlike confidence on the field.

Byron has long, flowing blonde hair that reaches approximately to his waist and distinctive reddish-brown eyes. Despite his androgynous and beautiful features, which sometimes lead to him being mistaken for a girl, he is definitively male. His Zeus team uniform is unique, consisting of a tunic-like jersey with the number ten on the back, a laurel-like armband, and a sash, all of which contribute to his godly, angelic motif.

In terms of personality at the start of Ares no Tenbin, Byron is characterized by a profound sense of arrogance and self-adoration. He genuinely considers himself to be a god among mortals, a belief reinforced by his incredible talents and the artificial power supplied to his team. He is highly competitive, expects victory as his divine right, and looks down upon opponents he deems lesser. He can be cold and dismissive, viewing soccer not as a sport but as a stage for his own perfection. However, this facade of divine superiority is a fragile one. The previous year, Zeus was victorious in the Football Frontier, but their use of an illegal performance-enhancing substance, "Kami no Aqua" also known as the Aqua of the Gods or Nectar of the Gods, was discovered. This scandal left the team, and Byron in particular, in a state of deep inner doubt and shame. He is not a villain by nature but a young player who was corrupted by power and manipulation, now struggling with the emotional aftermath of his team's disgrace.

His primary motivation throughout the Ares timeline is to move forward from this past and find redemption. He is deeply affected by the public's perception of Zeus as a team of cheaters, and he is haunted by the fact that their victory is remembered only for its illegitimacy. It is the moral support of an elderly woman named Matsuzaka Kiyo, who becomes the team's new coach, that gives him the strength to continue and to seek a new path based on genuine strength rather than artificial enhancement. He is driven by a desire to prove that he and his team are truly strong, not because of a drug, but because of their own talent and hard work.

Byron's role in the story is that of a former rival and a symbol of corrupted talent seeking purification. While he is a key figure for Zeus, his character arc is defined by his interactions with the main protagonists. He is directly inspired by the performance of Endou Mamoru, whose unwavering spirit and pure love for soccer led to Raimon's victory over the cheating Zeus team. This defeat is the catalyst for Byron's change; he is forced to confront the hollowness of his previous victories. In this timeline, his relationship with Endou and the Raimon team is less about direct team membership and more about rivalrous respect, as he works to rebuild Zeus from within under Coach Kiyo's guidance.

A key relationship in this specific iteration is with his new coach, Matsuzaka Kiyo. She provides the emotional and ethical compass that helps him navigate his shame and rebuild his team's honor. Her support is the direct counter to the destructive influence of his former coach, Ray Dark, who had supplied the Kami no Aqua. Other significant relationships are with his fellow Zeus members, whom he led into disgrace, and he feels a heavy responsibility to lead them back to glory through fair means. Later, in the subsequent Orion no Kokuin arc, his relationships expand as he joins Inazuma Japan and forms combination moves with players like Hiroto and Asuto, showing his ability to collaborate as an equal rather than dominate as a god.

Byron's development in Ares no Tenbin is a journey from arrogant god to humble warrior. He begins trapped in his own pride, but the loss to Raimon and the subsequent scandal shatter his worldview. He does not become a different person overnight; his confidence remains, but it is tempered with maturity and a new understanding of what true strength means. He learns to accept failure and to value the struggle for victory over an unearned win. He evolves from a player who relies on external power to one who seeks to refine his own innate abilities.

Notably, he continues to develop new abilities that do not rely on the Kami no Aqua. He retains his signature and incredibly powerful hissatsu technique, God Knows. In Ares, he evolves this technique into a more powerful version called God Knows Impact, an upgraded shoot that imbues the ball with divine thunder and energy. Another famous technique at his disposal is Heaven's Time, an awe-inspiring ability that allows him to snap his fingers and seemingly slow down time for everyone but himself, allowing him to effortlessly dribble past defenders. He is also capable of powerful combination hissatsu techniques, such as GGG Senjou no Aria with Hiroto and Iwato, and Hokkyoku Guma 2gou with Asuto and Norika, both of which showcase his ability to synchronize his godly powers with other strong players. While his abilities are devastating, his earlier arrogance and tendency to underestimate opponents who refuse to give up remain his primary weaknesses.
