Description
Griselda Reginhard, almost always referred to by her nickname Zelda, is a supporting character in the anime Astarotte no Omocha!. She is the young head of security and the personal bodyguard to Princess Astarotte Ygvar, known as Lotte, within the kingdom of Ygvarland. At seventeen years old, Zelda has a slim, small stature, standing 156 centimeters tall with a weight of 47 kilograms and measurements of 74-56-81. She typically wears a black dress uniform and keeps her long auburn or dark purple hair styled in a high ponytail with bangs. Her most distinctive features are her pale complexion and golden eyes. She is notably insecure about her flat chest and, due to the customs of her hometown, frequently wears traditional fundoshi-style underwear.
Zelda’s personality is a blend of professional stoicism and classic tsundere traits, though she is generally more mature and composed than the princess. While she tries to maintain a serious demeanor as a security chief, she often becomes flustered and embarrassed, particularly by her subordinates who wear highly revealing uniforms. She is very loyal to Princess Lotte and acts as a close confidante and adviser whenever the princess faces personal troubles. Unlike other staff members who reprimand Lotte for her dislike of men, Zelda tends to sympathize with the princess's feelings. Despite her warrior nature, she is fiercely insecure about her small chest and has a more vulnerable side, though she only snaps or loses her temper under extreme circumstances. Originally raised as a tomboy, she tries to act more feminine in the presence of her foster father and mentor, Atli, for whom she harbors a long-standing and unrequited romantic crush, failing to recognize that he is homosexual.
Zelda’s background is shrouded in some mystery. While she appears human, her exact race is never explicitly disclosed, though both the manga and anime strongly imply she might be a descendant of the Valkyrja, which would explain her immense combat abilities. She was raised from childhood and trained in swordsmanship by her foster father, Atli, who is regarded as one of the strongest warriors in the kingdom. At the age of thirteen, she first met Princess Lotte, who was six at the time, during a visit from the royal attendant Judit. When a wild dog threatened the young princess, Zelda courageously intervened and protected her. Moved by Lotte’s praise, Zelda immediately proclaimed that she would become the princess’s personal bodyguard, a role she officially assumed a few years later. By the events of the story, she is considered the very best combatant in Ygvarland’s military.
In her role as head of security, Zelda is fiercely protective of Lotte and is usually seen watching over the princess alongside her fellow staff members, Effie and Judit. Her primary motivations stem from her deep loyalty to Lotte and her desire to protect her at all costs, as well as her complicated feelings for her foster father, Atli. Her relationship with the human protagonist, Naoya Tohara, is a significant aspect of her character arc. Because of bad experiences during their first meeting, she initially acts hostile and cold toward him, seeming to hate him. However, her behavior follows a typical tsundere pattern, and she is implied to have a small crush on him or at least a grudging attraction, which she masks with aggression. Despite this tension, she also respects his abilities and welcomes opportunities to test her skills against his in combat, though their fights often remain inconclusive due to outside interruptions.
Zelda’s notable abilities are almost entirely combat-oriented. As the head of the princess’s security and a high-ranking officer (holding the rank of major), she is recognized as one of the most formidable warriors in the kingdom. Her swordsmanship, honed over years of training under Atli, is exceptionally skilled, and her physical prowess is far beyond that of a normal human, likely due to her implied Valkyrja heritage. Throughout the story, Zelda does not undergo a drastic personality shift, but her interactions with Naoya slowly reveal a softer, less hostile side, moving from pure antagonism to a complex dynamic that includes professional respect and subtle hints of affection.
