Description
Chuukou Kyocho is a first-year student at Kyosho Academy and serves as one of the most loyal fighters to Sousou Moutoku. She is the anime’s counterpart of Xu Chu from the classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Her past is marked by severe bullying at a previous school, where her exceptional height led male members of the judo club to harass her and attempt to forcibly verify her gender. Sosou Moutoku intervened, during which his dragon spirit manifested and slaughtered the attackers to protect her. This traumatic event forged an unbreakable bond between them; after regaining consciousness, Chuukou embraced the rampaging Sousou and was able to calm his rage, a feat no one else could achieve. This experience gave her newfound hope and instilled a lifelong resolve to protect Sousou, even at the cost of her own life, leading her to transfer to Kyosho Academy.
Chuukou has a stoic and emotionally reserved demeanor, displaying little to no outward expression in most situations. Despite this mask of detachment, she possesses profound care and fierce loyalty for Sousou and her comrades at Kyosho Academy. Her primary motivation is the protection of Sousou Moutoku, a duty she takes with absolute seriousness. Because of her unique history with him, she is often tasked by the academy's leader, Chuutatsu Shibai, with monitoring Sousou and stabilizing him when the power of his dragon threatens to consume him. Uniquely unafraid of him in this state, she can approach him and transfer chi to restore his calm.
Her role in the story is largely defined by her position as a guardian of Sousou and a key combatant for Kyosho Academy. During the events of the Battle of Red Cliffs in Ikki Tousen: Dragon Destiny, she easily overpowers Ekitoku Chouhi by choking her unconscious, demonstrating her immense physical superiority. She later fights Unchou Kan-u for possession of the Dragon Jade, a powerful artifact, but is ultimately defeated by Kan-u’s heightened aggression. Beyond battle, she is seen playing for the school's volleyball team, where her long limbs and height give her a natural advantage. In Ikki Tousen: Xtreme Xecutor, her story expands when she is selected as one of Kyosho's two representatives for a tournament on Nanban Island. After an ambush on their transport, she escapes and swims to the island with Bachou Mouki, a former enemy who had come to confront Sousou. During this journey, the two gradually reconcile as Chuukou shares her personal perspective on Sousou, leading them to become friends. She later allies with Hakufu Sonsaku to rescue imprisoned fighters and help repel the forces of Nanban.
