Description
Joe Shimamura, designated Cyborg 009, is a character defined by the tragedy of his past and his unwavering, idealistic drive to protect humanity. He is originally from Japan and is half-Japanese, with his father believed to have been a United States soldier stationed in the country after World War II. His early life was marked by hardship and loneliness. After his mother died shortly after his birth, he was raised by a Catholic priest in Kanazawa. Growing up as a mixed-race orphan, he faced constant bullying and social rejection, which led him down a path as a delinquent youth who eventually escaped from a juvenile detention facility. Tragically, his surrogate father, the priest, was murdered by the terrorist organization Black Ghost, an act for which Joe was wrongfully blamed. While attempting to escape the police, he was captured by Black Ghost and forcibly turned into the ultimate cyborg soldier, designated 009.
