Description
Professor Isaac Gilmore is a cybernetics scientist and a central supporting figure in 009 Re:Cyborg and the wider Cyborg 009 continuity. Originally a member of the secret organization Black Ghost, he served as the lead scientist of the 00 Cyborg program and oversaw the cybernetic enhancements that transformed the first nine cyborgs. Although he appeared to be a dutiful worker, he hid a deep distrust of Black Ghost's plans. Once the enhancements for the nine 00 cyborgs were complete, he deliberately allowed himself to be taken hostage by them, effectively defecting from the organization and joining their side.
Following his defection, Gilmore became the team's advisor and a father figure to the cyborgs. He helped formulate their plans and assisted them in understanding and managing their new mechanical bodies, and he remained a source of support and guidance throughout their struggles.
In 009 Re:Cyborg, which takes place about 27 years after the team disbanded, Gilmore continues to protect the group from behind the scenes. He is the one who blocked and reset Joe Shimamura's memories every three years, allowing Joe to live peacefully as an ordinary high school student with fabricated memories and relationships created through augmented reality. When a series of global bombings tied to an entity called His Voice begins, Gilmore suspects the United States government's National Security Agency may be orchestrating the incidents in an attempt to regain dominance as a global superpower. Later, he explains to the reunited cyborgs that the mysterious city in which they find themselves is a world created by His Voice.
Personality-wise, Gilmore is pragmatic, cautious, and scientifically precise, but also compassionate and deeply protective of the cyborgs he helped create.
