Description
Loran Martinozzi is a supporting character in the anime Dog Days′. He is a thirty-four-year-old knight who serves as the leader of the Knights of Biscotti, the elite military force of the Biscotti Republic. He comes from a knightly family and is the older brother of Éclair Martinozzi, a fellow knight and one of the main heroines. Loran is widely known by the epithet Iron Wall Loran, a title that reflects his reputation as a nearly unbreachable defensive force on the battlefield. His appearance includes short light-brown hair, blue eyes, and the animal ears characteristic of the inhabitants of Flonyard. He stands approximately 185 centimeters tall and is often seen in full knight armor, carrying a large shield or a lance.

Loran is an earnest, hardworking, and thoroughly dependable individual. He takes his duties as knight commander very seriously and has earned the complete trust of Millhiore Firianno Biscotti, the princess and sovereign ruler of Biscotti. His loyalty to his country and his princess is unwavering, and he is constantly concerned with the safety and readiness of his troops. Despite his stern and professional demeanor in official situations, he cares deeply for his younger sister Éclair and often worries about her impulsiveness, though he generally allows her to fight alongside the summoned hero Shinku Izumi. He is a strategist who prioritizes protecting the kingdom over personal glory, and his calm, level-headed nature provides a stabilizing presence among the more hot-headed younger characters.

In the story of Dog Days′, Loran serves as the commander of the Biscotti forces during the ceremonial wars that serve as the primary form of conflict resolution in Flonyard. He is responsible for organizing battle lines, coordinating troop movements, and ensuring that the rules of engagement are followed. While he does not take center stage as a main character, he appears in many major battle sequences, providing tactical guidance and occasionally engaging enemy commanders. His key relationships include his sister Éclair, to whom he acts as a mentor and guardian; Princess Millhiore, whom he serves with absolute fidelity; and Shinku Izumi, the hero from Earth, whom he respects as a capable ally despite the boy's unconventional methods. Loran also interacts respectfully with the leaders of rival nations, such as Leonmitchelli Galette des Rois and Gaul Galette des Rois, acknowledging their strength without hostility.

Loran undergoes little personal transformation over the course of the series, as he is already a mature and fully realized knight at the start. His development is more about reinforcing his reliability and deepening his trust in the younger generation, especially Shinku and the other heroes. He occasionally shows a softer side when off duty, but his character remains consistently dedicated to his role as the iron wall that protects Biscotti.

His notable abilities stem primarily from his exceptional defensive combat skills. He is a master of shield techniques, capable of withstanding powerful attacks from enemy champions and protecting multiple allies at once. His strength and endurance are far above average, allowing him to fight for extended periods without fatigue. He also possesses strong command skills, coordinating large groups of soldiers effectively during chaotic battles. While he does not wield a legendary divine blade like the heroes, his conventional weaponry and expert swordsmanship make him a formidable fighter in his own right. His strategic mind and battlefield experience make him an indispensable asset to the Biscotti forces throughout the events of Dog Days′.
