Description
Aldebarán de Tauro is a character from the film Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary, which presents a unique continuity separate from the original anime and manga series. In this adaptation, he is the Gold Saint guarding the second temple of the zodiac, the House of Taurus.

Regarding his background, Aldebarán is portrayed as a warrior of great stature and muscular build, fitting his constellation's symbolism of immense physical power. His appearance carries distinct features that set this version apart, including a prominent beard, a septum piercing, and a defined cleft chin, giving him a look that deliberately evokes the image of a bull. His armor is large and heavy, resembling the attire of a gladiator, and incorporates colors such as green, blue, and yellow, which serve as a reference to his country of origin, Brazil.

In terms of personality, Aldebarán presents a complex but noble character. On the surface, he is proud of his strength and status as a Gold Saint, carrying himself with the confidence of a warrior at the pinnacle of his order. However, beneath this intimidating exterior lies a fundamentally honorable and just individual. He is a loyal follower of Athena and holds a strong sense of justice. While he can initially seem stern, he is also known to be friendly, particularly once he has come to trust someone. He shares a significant friendship with Mu of Aries, and he later develops a respect for Seiya and the other Bronze Saints. A key aspect of his personality is his warrior's honor. He is strict in following the laws of the Sanctuary but is also willing to acknowledge a worthy opponent's skill, demonstrating that he values personal growth and fair combat over blind obedience.

Aldebarán's primary motivation within the story is to fulfill his duty as a guardian of the Sanctuary. He is not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to protect Athena and uphold the laws of the order. His role in Legend of Sanctuary is pivotal as one of the first major obstacles for the protagonists. When Seiya, Shiryu, Shun, and Saori (Athena) attempt to pass through his temple, he initially blocks their path. His role is not simply that of an enemy, but rather a tester. He confronts Seiya to evaluate his worth, explaining that the Bronze Saints would need to awaken the Seventh Sense, a power comparable to that of a god, to have any hope of succeeding.

His key relationships are central to his role. His friendship with Mu of Aries is important, as they are seen cooperating and Mu acts as a voice of reason. His relationship with Seiya of Pegasus evolves from adversary to mutual respect. In their fight, Aldebaran proposes a test: if Seiya can cut off one of the horns of his helmet, he will consider it a victory. When Seiya succeeds, Aldebaran honors his word, declares his defeat, and grants the group passage, even removing his mask as a sign of his concession. He later demonstrates his loyalty by helping Mu carry the wounded Saori Kido through the subsequent temples, showing his commitment to the goddess once he is convinced of her identity.

While his development in the film is limited by screen time, his arc is one of conviction tested and reaffirmed. He begins by following the orders of the Pope, believing he is protecting the Sanctuary from rebels. Through his confrontation with Seiya and his interaction with Saori, his faith is redirected. He ultimately chooses to side with the Bronze Saints and protect the true Athena, participating in the final battle against a massive stone colossus in the coliseum alongside the other Gold Saints.

As for notable abilities, Aldebarán is distinguished by his tremendous physical strength, considered the greatest among the Gold Saints. His combat style revolves around powerful, direct attacks. His signature technique is the Great Horn, where he unleashes a devastating wave of destructive energy by releasing his cosmos in a single, explosive burst. He is also shown to possess other psychic abilities common to Gold Saints, such as telekinesis, which he uses to move massive pillars and rocks without physical contact, and the ability to generate a defensive "Cosmic Burst" that can repel non-physical attacks. He also uses an iai-like defensive posture, keeping his arms crossed as if his fists were sheathed swords, ready for a simultaneous block and counterattack.
