Botan Nagatsuki heads the Nagatsuki family in Kyoto while balancing college life. Her childhood was defined by growing up alongside six tsukumogami called the Wedding Furnishings, whom she views as family. This upbringing caused social isolation as peers perceived her spirit-seeing ability as strange. A traumatic kidnapping by supposed relatives culminated in the first manifestation of the Marebito spirit within her during her escape. These events forged her deep-seated difficulty in trusting humans and forming close bonds. She sports short blue hair secured with a red hair clip and blue eyes. Her typical wardrobe features a cream scarf layered over a red coat with black buttons, paired with light, dark brown, or teal skinny jeans and brown boots. She often wears a red sweater or hoodie over a white or yellow shirt. When the Marebito spirit awakens, her hair turns white, her eyes develop a distinct pattern, and a dark mist envelops her like a divine robe. Warm and kind yet fiercely protective, Botan reacts intensely to criticism of her tsukumogami companions, showcasing unwavering loyalty. Lingering trauma fuels her fear of vulnerability and emotional closeness, complicating romantic attachments and triggering visible embarrassment when her love life is mentioned. As a Yorimashi, she hosts a sealed Marebito spirit whose leaking power attracts spirits and certain humans. The seal’s stability depends on her emotions: love and trust reinforce it, while betrayal or despair weaken it. Should the seal break, the Marebito takes control, rendering her personality distant, majestic, and dismissive of tsukumogami—relegating them to mere tools. Even then, she occasionally repairs damaged tsukumogami after conflicts. Her abilities include perceiving spirits, commanding tsukumogami, and exuding an aura that forces spirits to kneel. Her foundational bond with the six Wedding Furnishings tsukumogami drives her protective instincts as their sibling. Initial tension with Hyoma Kunato, stemming from his tsukumogami animosity, eased through cohabitation into mutual trust and deepening connection. She now regards him as a potential romantic interest, responding with flustered embarrassment to such implications. Her development focuses on navigating trust issues and the Marebito’s influence. Tentative steps toward human connection—particularly with Hyoma—strengthen the spirit’s seal, though this progress remains fragile against threats from spirits and humans coveting her power. At college, she engages with the Hyakunin Isshu club, reflecting her interest in classical Japanese poetry.
