Description
Giro is a significant character in the anime Arashi no Yoru ni: Himitsu no Tomodachi, where he serves as the primary force of opposition. He is the leader, or boss, of the wolf pack that resides in the Bakubaku Valley.

Physically, Giro is an imposing figure. He is a large and powerful wolf, with a dark, shaggy coat that is notably the darkest among his pack, contrasted by lighter fur on his paws and snout. His most distinguishing features are the scars from a past encounter with a goat, which cost him an ear and an eye, leaving him with a striking and fearsome appearance that commands respect from those around him.

Giro's personality is complex, shaped by his role as a leader and his deep-seated beliefs about the natural order. He is stern, effective, and ruthless when necessary, driven by a conviction that wolves and goats are natural enemies, a view he holds with unwavering certainty. This intolerance extends to any wolf who questions this principle, including Gabu, a young wolf in his pack. However, he is not portrayed as purely evil. His actions are rooted in the predatory instinct to survive and provide for his pack, and he operates with a certain code of affability and honor. He genuinely cares for the members of his pack, such as welcoming new pups born to his sister, and he is respected and readily obeyed by all other wolves. This sense of responsibility extends to upholding a promise made to his late best friend, Garuru, who was Gabu's father. Giro swore to watch over Garuru's son, which creates a deep internal conflict for him when Gabu becomes a traitor.

This promise is central to Giro's role in the story. As the pack leader, his primary motivation is the survival and unity of his pack. His deep grudge against goats, stemming from the injury inflicted by Mei's mother when he tried to hunt her as a young wolf, fuels his determination to eliminate any threat or violation of the wolf-goat dynamic. When he discovers Gabu's secret friendship with a goat named Mei, Giro views it not only as a personal betrayal but as a dangerous transgression against the pack's very way of life. Believing Gabu to be a traitor, he sets a trap to expose the relationship and then leads the pack in hunting both Gabu and Mei. His pursuit is relentless, even tracking the pair through a harsh winter to ensure they face punishment for defying the laws of nature as he sees them.

Key relationships define Giro's actions. His relationship with Gabu is the most significant. It is a bond built on a promise to a deceased friend, which is why Giro initially shows a degree of patience, giving Gabu a chance to prove his loyalty, rather than immediately condemning him. This mercy proves to be a critical mistake in Giro's eyes. His relationship with his pack is one of firm leadership; he is the undisputed authority whose orders are followed without question, as seen when he commands them to kill Gabu without mercy after the final betrayal. His hatred for goats is personified by his memory of Mei's mother, whose desperate defense cost him his ear and eye and whom he and his pack later killed.

Throughout the story, Giro shows little capacity for development or change. His beliefs are absolute, and events only serve to harden his resolve. If there is any development, it is a hardening of his heart against Gabu, moving from a desire to punish a traitor to a relentless, personal mission to destroy him, as he regrets going easy on the young wolf and is unwilling to let him escape. His final confrontation with Gabu is interrupted by a natural disaster, an avalanche, which separates him from his quarry, but even then, Giro and his pack are shown to have survived, suggesting his nature and his pursuit are enduring forces.

As a leader, Giro possesses notable abilities. He is a formidable and experienced fighter, recognized as far superior to the younger Gabu in combat. His physical power, combined with his deep, raspy voice and authoritative presence, makes him a natural alpha who can command his pack with efficiency. His tracking skills and tactical cunning are also on display, as he is able to follow Gabu and Mei across a great distance and through difficult terrain, showing that he is a persistent and intelligent hunter.
