TV Special
Description
Mousse is a male Chinese Amazon and a childhood friend of Shampoo. He has been deeply in love with her since they were both three years old, but she consistently finds him annoying and rebuffs his advances. This unrequited affection drives him to follow Shampoo to Japan, where he works as a waiter at the Cat Café. As a result of falling into the Spring of Drowned Duck at Jusenkyo, he transforms into a duck when splashed with cold water.

Mousse is highly nearsighted and relies on thick glasses to see, which often leads to comedic misunderstandings, such as mistaking bystanders or objects for other people. Despite his clumsy appearance, he is a skilled martial artist and an expert in hidden weapons. He conceals an vast array of items—including blades, chains, needles, bombs, and even household appliances—within his clothing, and can also hide small weapons in his duck form.

In the story of Nightmare! Incense of Spring Sleep, Mousse plays a supporting role during the chaos caused by the incense. When Akane falls into a deep, combative sleep and begins rampaging, Mousse provides Ranma with an incense called the Phantom Love Incense. This incense causes anyone who smells it to see every person around them as their beloved. Ranma attempts to use it to awaken Akane, though the effect wears off before he can succeed. Mousse’s involvement in providing this item reflects his characteristic mix of unpredictability and willingness to intervene, even if his contributions are often unconventional.

His primary motivation throughout the series is to win Shampoo’s love, and he blames Ranma for her continued rejection of him, making Ranma his persistent rival. Mousse remains devoted to Shampoo despite her indifference, and occasionally shows a kind heart and surprising bravery. He maintains a respectful relationship with Cologne, Shampoo’s grandmother, and is often caught up in the chaotic rivalries among the Nerima characters. In this OVA, he does not undergo major personal development but reinforces his established traits: a lovesick, determined fighter who, beneath his comic ineptitude, possesses real martial arts skill and a willingness to help, however indirectly.
