Description
Makoto Kenzaki, who transforms into Cure Sword, is a fourteen-year-old girl who originally served as a royal guard of Trump Kingdom, a parallel world. After her kingdom was invaded by the Jikochuu, she fled to Japan to search for the missing princess, Marie Ange. To blend in and carry out her mission, she assumed the public persona of a highly popular fashion model and singer, becoming a well-known idol. Her introduction into the wider Precure community occurs in Precure All Stars New Stage 2, where she and her teammates from Doki Doki Precure are invited to a party at the Fairy Academy.

Makoto possesses a deeply serious and duty-bound temperament, carrying a strong sense of responsibility for the safety of others. She is stubborn, driven by a firm sense of justice, and willingly puts herself at risk to defend those around her. However, beneath her composed and cool exterior lies a significant burden of regret: she harbors deep remorse over her perceived failure to protect Princess Marie Ange when Trump Kingdom fell. This guilt initially makes her solitary and reluctant to form close bonds with new allies. She tends to keep an emotional distance from others, believing that standing alone is the best way to keep them out of harm's way. Her true personality is somewhat solitary and aloof, and she struggles to recognize her own feelings or readily accept the friendship offered by others, particularly from the energetic Mana Aida.

Her primary motivation throughout her journey is the protection of the princess and the restoration of her homeland. This sense of duty is intertwined with a professional mindset; she works hard for her fans as an idol, taking genuine pride in making people smile, which hints at a more tender side that slowly emerges as she learns to trust.

In the narrative of Precure All Stars New Stage 2, Makoto and the other Doki Doki Precure members play a crucial role as the last line of defense. After the majority of the other Precure teams are ambushed by a malevolent Shadow creature that steals their transformation items and petrifies them, Smile Precure's Miyuki Hoshizora manages to send for help. Makoto, alongside Mana Aida, Rikka Hishikawa, and Alice Yotsuba, arrives at the Fairy Academy to confront the Shadow and rescue their comrades. Her role is pivotal as the team must fight alone against the main threat until the captured Cures are freed.

Her key relationships are defined by this shared struggle. Her partnership with her fairy companion, a purple cat-like fairy named Sharuru, is one of mutual concern, with Sharuru often worrying over Makoto's self-sacrificing tendencies. Among her fellow Precure, her relationship with Mana Aida, Cure Heart, is particularly transformative. Mana's persistent and open-hearted friendship gradually breaks through Makoto's emotional walls, helping her realize the value of relying on others. This theme of opening up to those who earn her trust is central to her development throughout the story.

As a warrior, Makoto embodies the theme of courage. Her transformation into Cure Sword, the blade of courage, grants her a combat style centered around swordsmanship. Her abilities include the Holy Sword, a powerful purification attack, and the Sparkle Sword technique. In the climactic battle of the film against the Shadow, she coordinates her Holy Sword attack alongside other Cures, combining their power to deliver a final blow.

Her character arc shows significant development from a self-reliant, guilt-ridden individual into a more open and cooperative hero. While she begins as someone who keeps others at arm's length to protect them on her own terms, her experiences alongside her teammates and the other Cures teach her the strength found in trust and friendship. Unlike her early days, where she struggled to connect with Mana and the others, by the events of New Stage 2 she stands firmly with her team, ready to fight together and protect the hearts of friends.
