Description
After surviving a massacre that claimed most of her kin, Zero and her older brother Thirteen emerged as sole survivors. This tragedy drove her to craft the Grimoire of Zero, a spellbook holding world-ending magic. When the grimoire was stolen, she enlisted a beastfallen called Mercenary as her bodyguard, pledging to restore his humanity in return for protection. Their quest forged a deep bond that evolved into romance and marriage. They eventually aided in rebuilding Mercenary’s home village, establishing a tavern and fortune-telling shop.
A decade later, Zero resides in a southern village and accepts an amnesiac boy, Saybil, as her first apprentice. She later reveals herself as Saybil’s paternal aunt, with Thirteen as his father. Saybil inherits immense magical power surpassing Zero’s own. Zero endures severe magical depletion after sacrificing most of her mana to resurrect Mercenary, leaving her frequently bedridden and unable to cast spells without collapsing. Despite this fragility, she mentors Saybil and classmates Holt and Kudo, assigning village duties as training. She focuses on Holt’s spell control and tasks Saybil with decoding his father’s encrypted spellbook to nurture his growth.
When Saybil’s group arrives under Headmaster Albus’s orders, Zero is absent—captured by the Church’s Dia Ignis faction and imprisoned in a cave. Her reappearance triggers Saybil’s fragmented memories and disproves claims she surrendered the village willingly. She offers Saybil a choice: study magic under her guidance or erase his memories for an ordinary life, prioritizing his autonomy over Thirteen’s manipulative legacy. Her goal remains ensuring he wields his power protectively.
Physically resembling a petite teenager, Zero has long silver hair and purple eyes. Once clad in a large brown cloak during travels, she now wears a distinctive ensemble: an open black coat with purple accents, white cuffs, a cropped white undershirt, black shorts, pink thigh-high stockings, and knee-high brown boots. Her personality blends blunt curiosity with disregard for social norms. She shows naivete in mundane matters like monetary value but exhibits fierce loyalty to Mercenary and her nephew.
After exposing a church conspiracy involving disaster remnants, Zero relocates to the Forbidden Library with Saybil, Holt, and Kudo. There, she researches magical threats while regaining strength. Her ultimate fate remains undisclosed, though she persists as their mentor.
