Description
Geronimo Junior, designated Cyborg 005, is a Native American man from the southwestern United States whose life before becoming a cyborg was marked by hardship and discrimination. Persistent racial prejudice left him unable to find stable work, a vulnerability that the terrorist organization Black Ghost exploited. Agents of Black Ghost approached him with a fraudulent job offer, which he accepted out of desperation, only to be abducted and forcibly transformed into the fifth model of their 00 Cyborg program.

As a person, 005 is the quintessential strong and silent type, embodying the role of the team's gentle giant. He is consistently portrayed as stoic, reserved, and a person of few words, speaking only when he feels it is absolutely necessary. Despite his intimidating and imposing physical stature, which makes him the largest of the cyborgs, he possesses a peaceful and down-to-earth nature. His Native American heritage is a core part of his identity, fostering a deep spiritual connection to nature and a profound respect for all living things. This spiritual inclination grants him a form of empathy or sixth sense, allowing him to perceive imbalances in the natural world or detect supernatural disturbances that others might miss.

His primary motivation is to use his unwanted powers to protect the innocent and defend the natural world from those who would harm it, especially Black Ghost. He views his fellow 00 Cyborgs not just as teammates but as a surrogate family, and he is fiercely protective of them. Within the team, his role is that of the physical powerhouse and living shield. He is relied upon for his immense strength and near-invulnerability, often acting as the frontline defender who can take on the heaviest enemy fire and smash through the toughest obstacles. While he prefers peace, he fights with grim determination when duty calls, seeing his actions as a necessary means to preserve life and balance.

His key relationships are defined by his quiet loyalty and protective instinct. He shares a strong bond with all his teammates, but his gentle side is particularly evident in his interactions with younger or more vulnerable members, such as the infant Cyborg 001, whom he is seen carrying with great care. His wisdom and calm demeanor, though rarely expressed, often provide a grounding influence on the team. In some continuities, a significant personal tragedy involves being forced to battle his childhood friend, Cochise, who was transformed into an enemy cyborg, an event that underscores the deep personal costs of his war against Black Ghost.

Over various adaptations, the core elements of 005's character have remained consistent, though specific details have evolved. In some versions, his backstory includes a suicide attempt by hanging after being unable to find work as a pig farmer, while in others, he was a construction worker who lost his job and refused demeaning work as a stereotypical sideshow attraction. His physical design has also seen variations, sometimes featuring a traditional mohawk and other times a crew cut, with his red tribal markings either being tattoos or glowing veins that activate with his power. A notable development occurs in the Conclusion: GOD'S WAR arc, where Cyborg 001 unlocks his latent psychic potential, dramatically amplifying his already immense physical strength beyond its mechanical limits. His cybernetic body effectively halts his aging, meaning despite being decades old, he retains the appearance of a man in his physical prime.

Cyborg 005's notable abilities are directly tied to his cybernetic enhancements, which were specifically designed to augment his natural strength and resilience. His primary power is superhuman strength, making him the physically strongest member of the 00 Cyborg team. He is capable of lifting and throwing massive objects like armored tanks and boulders with his bare hands, with some sources estimating his strength to be equivalent to over fifty men or even 10 million horsepower. Complementing this strength is his armored skin, a synthetic polymer that is highly resistant to damage, allowing him to withstand heavy artillery fire, missiles, and explosions that would destroy a normal person. This durability, combined with his enhanced cybernetic stamina, makes him an incredibly resilient combatant who can fight for extended periods without tiring. Beyond his physical enhancements, his culturally rooted spiritual empathy serves as an additional, non-cybernetic ability that aids the team in tracking and sensing threats.
