Description
Pyunma is the young man designated as Cyborg 008. In the events of the film Cyborg 009 and the Monster Wars, his background establishes him as an individual from Africa who was forcibly captured by the agents of the criminal organization known as Black Ghost. Before his capture, he was attempting to escape from a life of slavery, making his lack of freedom a core part of his tragic transformation into a cyborg soldier. He is approximately 22 years old.

As a member of the 00 Cyborg team, Pyunma is characterized by a quiet and serious demeanor. While he does not receive as much individual focus as some other team members, he displays an enthusiasm for using his unique abilities to assist his comrades, particularly on missions that require his specific skill set. His primary role within the group is that of an aquatic specialist, handling anti-submarine warfare and ocean reconnaissance. He is noted among the nine cyborgs as being the most proficient swimmer.

His cybernetic enhancements are specifically designed for underwater operations. His lungs have been replaced with mechanical implants that grant him the ability to breathe underwater indefinitely without the need for air. This modification also allows him to withstand the extreme pressures of the deep ocean. In the Monster Wars film, he demonstrates a notable offensive ability by spewing a powerful stream of water from his mouth to fight enemies. These abilities make him an invaluable asset for missions involving naval combat or infiltration of underwater bases.

In the story of Cyborg 009 and the Monster Wars, 008 and the other cyborgs, having rebelled against their creators, must use their powers to combat Black Ghost's latest threat: giant dinosaur-like robots attacking cities around the world. He fights alongside his comrades in a global quest to locate and destroy the enemy's hidden base. His key relationships are with the other eight cyborgs, including the team leader 009, Joe Shimamura, as well as his teammate Albert Heinrich, designated Cyborg 004. As one of the original nine, he is a core member of this found family of warriors, each of whom shares the common origin of being unwillingly transformed by Black Ghost.

Regarding his character development within this specific film, his narrative arc is limited due to the movie's shorter runtime. However, his visual representation in this era is notable. His early design in this and other contemporary productions featured exaggerated and stereotypical characteristics that are now widely recognized as racially insensitive caricatures. This depiction has been critically re-evaluated and revised in later adaptations of the Cyborg 009 series, which portray him with a more realistic and respectful appearance.
