Description
Cyborg 001 is known as Ivan Whisky, a name that reflects his origins from Moscow, Russia. Among the team of nine cyborgs, he holds the unique and paradoxical position of being both the first unit created and the one with the most infantile appearance, being less than a year old.

The background of Cyborg 001 is tragic and rooted in a father's desperate obsession. Born with a severe illness that likely affected his brain, Ivan became the subject of numerous experimental operations performed by his father, Gamo, a renowned brain surgeon driven to the edge of sanity by his quest to find a cure. This series of unauthorized brain enhancements, which his mother Erika disapproved of, ultimately granted him his extraordinary psychic gifts but left him in the body of a perpetual infant. As the first cyborg, he was placed in cryogenic stasis alongside others until he was reawakened to join the final team.

Despite his physical helplessness, Ivan possesses a highly advanced intellect and a mature, focused personality due to his brain enhancements. He serves as a calm and quick-thinking member of the group, often dispensing crucial information about the situations the team faces. He functions as a strategic hub for the team, using his long-range telepathy to coordinate members and acting as a last-ditch psychic defense when the situation becomes dire. His primary motivation is not individual but collective, fighting to stop the evil Black Ghost organization alongside his fellow cyborgs to protect the world from destruction and war.

Within the team, Cyborg 001 occupies a central role that combines leadership with vulnerability. He is often considered the leader during the heat of battle, guiding the team's actions from a position of relative safety. He shares a particularly close relationship with Cyborg 003, Françoise Arnoul, who often holds and physically cares for him during their missions. In quieter moments, Dr. Gilmore takes over this caretaker role. While he is not the primary field operative like Cyborg 009, his powers are so essential that he acts as an emergency rescue system, capable of extracting the team from otherwise inescapable traps.

A key aspect of his character development is the tension between his immense power and his fragile infant body. His abilities are incredibly taxing, which forces him to sleep for most of the day. This is not merely a weakness but a defining limitation; he can be rendered completely unavailable if he falls asleep at a critical moment. However, he possesses a keen awareness that allows him to sense precisely when his powers are most needed, often awakening just in time to turn the tide of a fight.

The notable abilities of Cyborg 001 are almost entirely psychic in nature and are among the most formidable in the series. He communicates exclusively through telepathy, projecting his thoughts to the other cyborgs rather than speaking verbally. His primary power is psychokinesis, or telekinesis, which allows him to move objects with his mind. He frequently uses this power to levitate himself and the basket he often occupies. In the film Cyborg 009 and the Monster Wars, he also demonstrates the ability to teleport other people, a power he uses at least twice to save his comrades in times of critical need, though it may require the targets to be unconscious.
