Description
Akane Motomiya is the main protagonist of the original video animation Harukanaru Toki no Naka de: Ajisai Yumegatari. She is a modern high school student whose ordinary life takes an extraordinary turn when she is summoned away from her own world.
Standing at approximately 160 centimeters tall, Akane is a fifteen or sixteen-year-old girl with short, straight pink hair and green eyes. Her personality is consistently described as cheerful, bright, and forthright. At her core, she is an honest, kind, and optimistic individual who genuinely wants to help others. While she may appear somewhat passive at first when confronted with her sudden and bewildering circumstances, she possesses a determined and never-give-up attitude that becomes more apparent as she faces the challenges ahead. Her compassionate nature is a defining trait, though her innocence and kindness can sometimes lead her into difficult situations.
The story begins as Akane is walking to school with her classmate Tenma Morimura and their underclassman friend Shimon Nagareyama. She hears a voice calling to her from an old well on an abandoned historical estate. This voice belongs to Akuram, the leader of the Oni clan, and her response leads to her being pulled into another realm known as Kyou, a world that strongly resembles Kyoto during the Heian period. Upon her arrival, she is identified as the Ryuujin no Miko, the Priestess of the Dragon God, a legendary figure who possesses the power of the gods and is destined to protect Kyou from the encroaching threat of the Oni clan. Her primary motivation becomes the desire to do the right thing and defend this unfamiliar world, a task she must complete before she can hope to return home.
In her role as the Dragon Priestess, Akane is the only person capable of communicating with the Dragon God. To aid her in her mission, she is supported by the Hachiyou, or Eight Guardians, a group of eight specially chosen men who are sworn to protect her. This group includes her two friends from her own world, Tenma and Shimon, who were summoned alongside her, as well as six other warriors native to Kyou. The OVA Ajisai Yumegatari places particular focus on her relationship with one of these guardians, Shimon Nagareyama, and explores the bonds that form between them.
Throughout the narrative, Akane develops from a bewildered and reluctant ordinary schoolgirl into someone who accepts her destiny and faces her responsibilities with courage. Her primary ability as the Priestess of the Dragon God is to purify impurities and defeat vengeful spirits known as onryou, which the Oni clan has unleashed across Kyou. To accomplish this, she can harness the powers of the five elements—wood, fire, earth, metal, and water—with the help of the Hachiyou. Though she may initially be hesitant to use her powers, her determination to protect Kyou and do what is right drives her to embrace her role as the legendary priestess.
