TV-Series
Description
Okita, known in the series as Souji Okita, is a supporting character in the anime Papuwa. He is a member of the Shinsengumi, a band of swordsmen and self-styled assassins based in the wolf country of Mibu, whose fighting ability is said to rival that of the Ganma Army's elite special battle corps. The group is a comedic parody of the historical Shinsengumi, and its members, including Okita, borrow recognizable traits and names from their historical counterparts. Okita is an adult male with gray hair cut to ear length. His most distinctive personality trait is his enjoyment of abusing his comrade Kondou, a habit that is played as a running gag and defines much of his screen presence. The Shinsengumi are introduced partway through the 2003 television series, and from that point Okita takes part in the recurring encounters between the group and the main characters, joining the general chaos of the island's comedic conflicts. As a member of the Shinsengumi, Okita is a capable swordsman, and the group is portrayed as a genuine threat in battle despite its comedic framing. His key relationship is with Kondou, whom he repeatedly mistreats, while his individual motivations and personal development receive little narrative focus; his role is primarily comic, centered on his membership in the Shinsengumi and his ongoing mistreatment of Kondou.
