OVA
Description
Lamune, the central character of the anime Knights of Ramune & EX, is originally an ordinary fourth-grade boy from Earth whose ordinary life is upended when he is drawn into a fantasy world. His background is that of a typical ten-year-old who loves playing video games, often to the detriment of his school grades. He is a blood relative of the legendary hero Ramuness, which marks him as the chosen one destined to save the Hara-Hara World from the evil Don Harumage. In the initial series, Lamune is pulled into this other world by a girl named Milk, who reveals his heritage and gives him the task of reviving the Guardian Knights to fight against Don Harumage.
Personality-wise, Lamune has a generally good heart but can be thoughtless about the feelings of others. He is energetic, impulsive, and prone to making exaggerated exclamations when embarrassed or surprised. He often finds himself in comedic situations, particularly around the female characters, though he insists he is not a pervert. Despite his flaws, he is brave when the situation demands it and grows into his role as a hero over time.
His primary motivation is initially to return to his normal life, but he gradually accepts his responsibility as the chosen hero Lamuness. He is driven by a sense of duty to protect the Hara-Hara World and its inhabitants, as well as a growing attachment to his companions, especially Milk.
In the story, Lamune serves as the protagonist and the pilot of the Guardian Knight King Squasher, which he controls after inserting coins into his advisor robot Tama-Q. The OVA Knights of Ramune & EX takes place after the original television series, with Lamune having returned to Earth but with no memory of his previous adventures. The remains of the villain Gobuhriki find their way to Earth and awaken the spirit of Don Harumage, forcing Milk, Cocoa, and Leska to search for Lamune and Da Cider to prevent a new threat. Lamune’s role in this story arc is crucial: despite his lost memories, he must rediscover his past and step up to once again become the hero.
Key relationships include his romantic interest and eventual wife, Princess Milk, who is one of the three Maidens of Arara and the one who first brought him into the fantasy world. He also shares a close bond with Milk’s sister Cocoa, who is more reserved and intellectual, and with the former antagonist Da Cider, who becomes an ally. His advisor robot Tama-Q is his constant companion and the means by which he summons his mecha.
Notable abilities stem from his connection to the Ramuness bloodline. When transformed into the form of Lamuness, he can pilot the Guardian Knight King Squasher, a large mecha that fights the forces of evil. He also wields a special attack dubbed the Saint Bomb. In his ordinary human form, he has no superhuman powers, relying on his courage and quick thinking.
Over the course of the series, Lamune develops from a self-centered, game-obsessed child into a more mature and dependable hero, willing to sacrifice his comfort for the sake of others. His lost memories in the EX OVA create a new opportunity for growth as he rediscovers his identity and purpose.
