Description
Christ is a character from the 1987 anime film Saint Seiya: Evil Goddess Eris. He is the Saint of the Southern Cross constellation, also known by the name Crux. In life, Christ was a legitimate Silver Saint who served under the goddess Athena. He perished in some distant, undocumented holy war and was buried, his legend seemingly forgotten by history. Long after his death, the goddess of discord, Eris, sought to build an army to challenge Athena. Christ, described as feeling restless and tormented in his grave, accepted Eris offer of a new life and was resurrected as a Ghost Saint, one of the five elite warriors known as the Ghost Five who served as Eris personal guard.

Christ is depicted as a young, tall, and athletically built man, estimated to be around seventeen years old and standing nearly two meters tall. He has blonde hair that falls just below his neck and either blue or green eyes. One of his most distinctive physical traits is a prominent unibrow, which gives him a rough and aggressive appearance. This rugged look was intentionally designed to serve as a physical opposite to his primary opponent, Cygnus Hyoga, who is known for his elegant demeanor and refined features.

His personality aligns with his brutish appearance. He is arrogant and extremely confident in his combat abilities, to the point of boasting about his power. Christ is not a symbol of the honorable warrior; he has no qualms about employing underhanded tactics, such as attacking an opponent from behind or striking them while they are on the ground. This behavior marks him as an antagonist who has abandoned the chivalrous code associated with Athena Saints. His motivation for turning against Athena stems from a deep-seated resentment; he is a legendary hero who feels he was forgotten, and his bitterness made him susceptible to Eris promises of a second chance at life, for which he willingly pledged his loyalty.

Within the story of the film, Christ serves as a direct enemy to Cygnus Hyoga. This rivalry is thematically significant, as Hyoga represents the Northern Cross, making Christ his Southern Cross counterpart. Christ is the first to engage Hyoga as the Bronze Saints infiltrate Eris temple. He ambushes the Cygnus Saint, attempting to crush him with a giant statue before revealing himself. During their fight, Christ demonstrates that he is familiar with Hyoga signature technique, Diamond Dust. He unleashes his own powerful attack, the Southern Cross Thunderbolt, which clashes with Hyoga ice and leaves a deep, cross-shaped wound on Hyoga armor.

The key relationship in Christ narrative is not with his allies but with the goddess who revived him, Eris. Despite his service and loyalty, he is ultimately deemed expendable by her. While Christ is grappling with a momentarily distracted Hyoga, preparing to deliver a killing blow, Eris sees an opportunity. Without hesitation, she throws her spear, intending to slay the Bronze Saint. The projectile pierces cleanly through Christ body, striking his heart, before wounding Hyoga. This betrayal leads to his sudden and final death. This moment serves as the climax of his development, revealing the tragic and hollow nature of his pact with Eris. He was never a valued comrade but merely a tool, a fact confirmed by the audible anger in his voice as he realizes her treachery. Unlike other antagonists who seek redemption or fall in honorable combat, Christ meets his end as a sacrificial pawn, abandoned by the very power he trusted.

Despite being a former Silver Saint, Christ possesses formidable power rooted in his control over the cosmos. As a Silver Saint, his basic physical abilities allow him to fight at speeds between Mach 2 and Mach 5, and his Cloth can withstand extreme temperatures down to -200 degrees Celsius. However, supplementary material notes he may be exceptionally fast, with one guidebook stating his movement can reach the speed of lightning. His signature technique, the Southern Cross Thunderbolt, channels his cosmos into a surge of electrical energy. He positions his arms to form a cross and releases a brilliant blue bolt of lightning that strikes the opponent with incredible speed, delivering a powerful compressive blow that leaves a cross-shaped scar on the target.
