Description
Maya, also referred to as Arrow or Sagitta Maya, is a character from the first Saint Seiya theatrical film, Saint Seiya: Evil Goddess Eris. He originally served Athena as a Silver Saint, a rank just below the Gold Saints, and died at some point in the past. When the goddess Eris resurrects using the golden apple, she revives five deceased Saints to serve as her Ghost Saints, also known as the Ghost Five, and Maya is among them. He accepts this second life to continue fighting.

Maya's background as a former Silver Saint implies he was once a warrior who died with regret, which Eris exploits to secure his loyalty. In the story, he is the first Ghost Saint encountered by Pegasus Seiya within Eris's temple. Their battle takes place among ruins, where Maya uses his signature technique, Hunting Arrow Express. This attack involves launching a volley of arrows, mixing real projectiles with illusions to confuse his opponent. A single real arrow is coated with a poison that gradually robs the victim of their five senses, a trait that makes Maya a dangerous adversary even after defeat. Seiya initially believes he has dodged all the arrows, but Maya reveals with his dying breath that he has been struck and that the poison will soon take effect.

Personality-wise, Maya appears calm and confident in combat, but not overly arrogant. He does not display the same pride as some other revived Saints. His motivation is not deeply explored beyond serving Eris in exchange for a renewed existence. He has no notable relationships with other Ghost Saints or the Bronze Saints beyond his direct opponent, Seiya. There is no character development across the film, as Maya is defeated and killed again in a single encounter.

His abilities are centered on archery. Hunting Arrow Express is his only named technique, combining speed, illusion, and a paralytic poison. As a Silver Saint, his physical speed and cosmos are within the range of his rank, likely around Mach 2 to 5. His Cloth, the Sagitta Cloth, resembles that of Ptolemy, another Sagitta Saint from the main series, though with a smoother belt design. Maya's name itself is a pun: the kanji for Maya (魔矢) means "evil arrow," contrasting with Seiya's name, which can be read as "sacred arrow" or "star arrow." This thematic opposition reinforces their roles in the film.
