Description
Maya di Sagitta is a character from the first Saint Seiya theatrical film, Saint Seiya: Evil Goddess Eris. He is one of the Ghost Saints, a group of five deceased warriors from the past who are revived by the goddess Eris to serve her. In life, Maya was a Silver Saint of the constellation Sagitta, the Arrow. As a Ghost Saint, he is given a new body by Eris and granted a second chance at existence in exchange for his loyalty.

Maya's background is rooted in his past as a Saint of Athena who died in ancient times. The details of his original life and death are not explored in the film. His revival places him among the Ghost Five, alongside Orion Jager, Southern Cross Christ, Scutum Jan, and Lyra Orpheus. Within this group, Maya is the first to confront the Bronze Saints when they arrive at Eris's temple to rescue Athena.

Personality-wise, Maya is portrayed as a cunning and treacherous combatant who revels in the hunt. He is arrogant and confident in his abilities, believing his arrows never miss their mark. He has a personality that, on the surface, can seem similar to the protagonist Seiya, but Maya is ruthless and willing to use any underhanded tactic to win. He attacks from a distance, uses illusions to confuse his foe, and does not hesitate to strike when his opponent is off guard. His motivation is simple: he fights to serve Eris and to maintain the new life she has granted him, showing a willingness to fight to the death to fulfill his mission.

In the story, Maya's role is that of the first major obstacle for Seiya. As Seiya makes his way through Eris's sanctuary, Maya ambushes him. The two engage in a one-on-one battle. Maya uses his signature technique, Hunting Arrow Express, to unleash a rain of arrows mixed with illusory projectiles and real poisoned arrows. When a poisoned arrow strikes Seiya, it begins to dull his five senses, gradually weakening him. However, Seiya's determination and awakened Seventh Sense allow him to overcome the poison's effects and defeat Maya in close combat. Despite his defeat, Maya's attack delays Seiya and serves as a demonstration of the Ghost Saints' threat.

Key relationships are limited due to his brief appearance. He is subordinate to Eris and interacts primarily with Seiya as his opponent. He does not have any notable development over the course of the film; he is introduced, fights, and is defeated, serving as a speed bump for the protagonist.

Maya's notable abilities center on archery and deception. His main technique, Hunting Arrow Express, involves raising his left forearm and firing a barrage of arrows from his hand. These arrows include both tangible, poisoned projectiles and illusory ones, making it difficult for the target to distinguish real threats from fake. The poison on the real arrows slowly robs the victim of their senses, leading to unconsciousness and eventual death if not treated. Maya is also capable of creating multiple illusionary copies of himself, which he uses as a evasive maneuver or to confuse enemies before launching a real attack. As a Silver Saint, his speed and physical prowess are considerable, though he is ultimately outmatched by Seiya's power.

Maya di Sagitta serves as a minor antagonist whose primary function is to showcase the danger of the Ghost Saints and to test Seiya early in the film. He is a straightforward, battle-oriented character with no deeper arc or significant relationships beyond his allegiance to Eris.
