Description
Frey is a character from the anime film Saint Seiya: The Heated Battle of the Gods. He holds the position of a priest serving the god Odin in the land of Asgard, acting as a subordinate to Dolbar, the principal representative of Odin. His status as a priest grants him considerable authority within the Valhalla Palace, allowing him to give orders even to the powerful God Warriors. Frey is the twin brother of Freya, and his name, meaning Lord, is derived from the important Norse god Freyr, associated with fertility and prosperity.

In terms of appearance, Frey is a tall, handsome young man with a typical Scandinavian look. He has fair skin, long blonde hair that reaches nearly to his shoulders, and blue eyes. His attire as a priest consists of a white tunic with a black belt, adorned with a pink ribbon, and a long white cape with a green interior and blue detailed shoulder pieces.

Frey is initially presented as a charming and courteous individual, showing great politeness and sympathy towards the goddess Athena, whose human form is Saori Kido. He appears captivated by her beauty, even apologizing for staring, which some interpret as a possible infatuation at first sight. His core personality is defined by a deep-seated love for peace. He detests unnecessary conflict and bloodshed, always seeking alternatives to war, believing a conflict with Athena’s Sanctuary would be a terrible mistake. Frey is a man of honor who places the welfare of Asgard above all else, including his own life, and is driven by a strong sense of justice.

Frey’s motivations are rooted in the protection of Asgard and the preservation of world peace. He becomes suspicious that a rebellion is being fomented by a warrior named Loki, which would inevitably lead to a devastating war against Athena. Trusting his superior, he confides his doubts in Dolbar, hoping to avert the crisis. Unfortunately, this act of loyalty reveals his naivete, as he is completely unaware that Dolbar himself is the true mastermind behind the plot. This discovery becomes the catalyst for his actions, as he resolves to stop the corrupt priest’s plan no matter the cost.

His role in the story is pivotal. After being imprisoned and tortured by the treacherous Dolbar for his inconvenient questions, Frey is eventually freed. He arrives at the climax of the battle to find the Bronze Saints struggling against Dolbar, who has trapped Athena in a parallel dimension using the Odin Shield. The Bronze Saint Seiya, wearing the Sagittarius Gold Cloth, hesitates to shoot the final arrow at Dolbar, fearing that with the priest’s death, the secret to freeing Athena will be lost forever. Frey takes command of the situation, climbing the great Statue of Odin and shouting for Seiya to fire the arrow, promising to rescue Athena himself. Despite Dolbar’s attacks and warnings that Odin's wrath will fall upon Asgard, Frey declares that the corrupt priest will be destroyed along with the statue. With his remaining strength, he drives his sword into the statue’s head, causing it to collapse. He sacrifices his own life in the process, but the destruction of the statue releases Athena and the falling debris mortally wounds the already-dying Dolbar, ending his reign.

Frey’s key relationships define his character arc. His most significant bond is with his sister, Freya, for whom he shows clear affection and friendship. His relationship with Dolbar is one of a loyal subordinate to a corrupt leader, which evolves into direct opposition and betrayal for the greater good. He also shares a respectful, if brief, bond with Saori Kido, whom he ultimately sacrifices himself to save. While he suspects Loki of being the villain, his true antagonist is revealed to be Dolbar.

The character experiences a clear development from a trusted, courteous priest within the Asgardian hierarchy to a defiant rebel willing to sacrifice his status and life to restore his homeland’s honor. His final act is one of redemption for Asgard, trusting that by protecting Athena, his land will recover its lost honor.

In terms of notable abilities, despite being a priest rather than a frontline warrior, Frey demonstrates remarkable physical strength and endurance. He is able to escape from his prison cell using his own power and withstands attacks from the powerful Dolbar. As a servant of Odin, he can manipulate the inner energy known as Cosmo. He can channel this Cosmo into his sword, greatly increasing its cutting power. He uses this ability to accomplish his final, greatest feat: destroying the massive Statue of Odin and, in the process, shattering the parallel dimension to free Athena. After his sacrifice, the sunlight returns to Asgard, and from the ruins of the statue, the legendary world tree, Yggdrasill, grows, symbolizing the restoration of the land.
