Description
Lynx Jaō is a Corona Saint who serves the sun god Phoebus Abel in the third Saint Seiya theatrical film, Legend of Crimson Youth. He is one of the three Corona Saints, a special rank of warriors who have served Abel since mythological times and do not belong to the traditional Bronze, Silver, or Gold hierarchies. His constellation is the Lynx, and his Corona Cloth, bestowed directly by Abel, possesses defensive properties that render it highly resistant to attacks from Athena’s Saints.

Jaō is calm, confident, and deeply devoted to his god. Unlike his fellow Corona Saints Atlas and Berenice, he displays a more restrained and almost chivalrous demeanor. He initially acknowledges the achievements of the Bronze Saints who defeated the Gold Saints at the Sanctuary, showing a sense of respect for worthy opponents. Throughout the film, he does not engage in underhanded attacks and instead prefers to confront enemies directly, though he remains unwavering in his mission to protect Abel’s will.

His primary motivation is to serve Abel’s plan to cleanse the Earth through a great flood and usher in a new era under divine rule. He believes in the righteousness of his god’s cause and acts as an enforcer against anyone who opposes Abel, including Athena and her Saints. In the story, Jaō first appears alongside Atlas and Berenice when Abel returns to Earth. He later participates in the swift defeat of the Gold Saints Capricorn Shura and Aquarius Camus when they rebel against Abel. His most significant role comes when he blocks Pegasus Seiya’s path after Seiya defeats Gemini Saga. Jaō demands that Seiya not proceed further, but a mortally wounded Saga rises and engages Jaō in a final clash. The two exchange their ultimate techniques—Galaxian Explosion against Shining Hell Claw—and the resulting explosion kills both warriors. This sacrifice allows Saga to redeem himself and gives Seiya the opening to continue toward saving Athena.

Jaō’s key relationships are with his god Abel, whom he serves without question, and his fellow Corona Saints Atlas and Berenice, with whom he operates as a unified group. His primary adversary among Athena’s Saints is Gemini Saga, whom he faces in his final battle. He also briefly confronts the Bronze Saints but does not engage them directly before his death.

Jaō possesses the Shining Hell Claw, a technique in which his cosmos ignites and he charges at his opponent with claw-like strikes resembling a fiery lynx. His physical speed and ferocity in combat are noted to be formidable, and his Corona Cloth grants him great durability. However, he has limited screen time and character development, serving primarily as an obstacle that facilitates Saga’s redemption and highlights the power of Abel’s warriors.
