Description
Jaú de Lince, whose name is also written as Jaō or Jaow, is a character exclusive to the anime film Saint Seiya: Legend of Crimson Youth. He serves as a Corona Saint, a holy warrior in the service of the god Phoebus Abel. His protective constellation is Lynx. As one of Abel's elite soldiers, he possesses power that rivals that of the Gold Saints, the highest-ranking warriors of the goddess Athena.
Physically, Jaú is depicted as a young man with a muscular build, short red hair, and green eyes. Among his fellow Corona Saints, he is considered by some to be the second most powerful, a belief that aligns with his self-assured and confident demeanor. He maintains a calm and composed personality and shows great respect for his master, Abel. However, this confidence borders on arrogance and overconfidence, as he firmly trusts in his own strength and believes he can emerge victorious from any combat situation.
Jaú's primary motivation is to defend his god Abel and his plans, which include the destruction and recreation of the Earth. In the story, he first demonstrates his formidable power in a group battle alongside his fellow Corona Saints, Atlas and Berenike. Together, they easily defeated and killed two Gold Saints, Shura of Capricorn and Camus of Aquarius, when the Gold Saints rebelled against Abel for killing Athena.
His key relationship within the story is not with the Bronze Saints but with the Gold Saint, Saga of Gemini. When Jaú was about to engage the Bronze Saint Pegasus Seiya in battle, the severely wounded Saga intervened. Saga provoked Jaú into accepting a one-on-one duel instead, buying precious time for Seiya to escape and save Athena. Jaú's arrogance proved to be his fatal flaw. He accepted the challenge, believing he could easily defeat Saga due to his opponent's exhausted and injured state. Underestimating the depth of a Gold Saint's cosmos, Jaú found himself caught in a sacrificial technique by Saga. The two warriors were propelled into the upper atmosphere where they were both burned to ashes, resulting in a double death.
Regarding his development, Jaú remains a static character whose defining traits of loyalty and overconfidence lead directly to his demise. Unlike his comrades, he is the only Corona Saint who does not engage in a direct fight against any of the Bronze Saints.
In combat, Jaú wields a Corona Cloth, the armor of his rank. His cloth is unique, featuring six shoulder pauldrons and lacking the blade-like appendage on the ankle that the other two Corona Cloths possess. He does not wear a tunic over his armor, setting him apart visually from Atlas and Berenike. His notable abilities draw power from his cosmos to execute a range of physical attacks. He can use techniques like Golpes aéreos de Lince (Aerial Lynx Strikes) and Garras de Lince (Lynx Claws) to deliver powerful, rapid blows. His signature and most beautiful technique is the Shining Hell Claw, where he concentrates his cosmos into a capsule of fiery solar energy around his body. This energy then takes the form of a flaming lynx that leaps onto his opponent to deliver a devastating fiery strike.
