Gome, also frequently called Gomechan by those close to him, is a unique and important creature from the world of Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken. His background is tied directly to the protagonist, Dai, as Gome is a one-of-a-kind Golden Metal Slime who lived with Dai and the monster magician Brass on the island of Delmurin. He has been Dai's very first and best friend since they were small children, and their bond is the foundation of his entire existence.

In terms of physical appearance, Gome is a small, golden, metallic slime with a pair of wings and notably large eyes for a creature of his kind. Unlike the more common, gooey blue slimes, Gome also possesses a small set of teeth. His species name, Golden Metal Slime, is the origin of his nickname "Gome," as a young Dai could not pronounce the full name. His personality stands in contrast to the brave and headstrong nature of his human companion. Gome is often described as being something of a coward, and he rarely takes an active part in combat. His rare golden body makes him a target for villains, such as the party of fake heroes who kidnap him, providing an early catalyst for Dai's heroism. As a Golden Metal Slime, Gome possesses inherent notable abilities. He is completely immune to the dark influence of the Demon Lord Hadlar, which is why he, unlike many other monsters, is able to live in peace and choose to leave the island with Dai. His most significant ability, tied directly to his nature as a divine artifact, is the capability to grant wishes. While he spends most of the story as a small, flying, and somewhat timid companion, the fulfillment of his core function as a wish-granting being for a pure-hearted hero like Dai is his greatest and most defining power.
