Description
Tohru is a dragon from another world, initially aligned with the Chaos Faction and indoctrinated to believe humans were inferior and deserving of destruction. Her worldview shattered after a near-fatal battle injury forced her retreat to the human world, where Kobayashi discovered her. In a drunken state, Kobayashi removed a divine sword embedded in Tohru’s back, saving her life. This unexpected act sparked immediate romantic feelings and intense loyalty in Tohru toward Kobayashi. She transformed into a humanoid form, adopting a maid outfit inspired by a cosplay café, and insisted on serving as Kobayashi’s live-in maid to repay the debt.
In human form, Tohru appears as a young woman with blonde hair featuring red-orange tips, red-orange eyes, and visible horns. She typically wears a navy-blue maid dress with a white undershirt, gloves, and a red necktie. Her dragon tail remains visible in private settings—green and scaly on top with a smooth white underside. Outdoors, she conceals her wings and tail but retains her horns, which humans dismiss as cosplay. Her dragon form is a massive green European-style dragon with black wings and a light green underbelly, towering over multi-story buildings at 15–20 meters long. She stands 176 cm tall in human form, with physical proportions of B95/W70/H75.
Initially energetic yet naive about human customs, Tohru displayed sporadic aggression toward humans, casually referencing their downfall. Her demeanor toward Kobayashi remained consistently affectionate and devoted. Over time, she evolved into a more responsible and nurturing figure, particularly toward Kanna, whom she treats as a younger sister. Despite her cheerful exterior, Tohru reacts with jealousy or hostility toward perceived rivals, fiercely protecting Kobayashi. She struggles with stubbornness and initially viewed human traditions skeptically but gradually adapted to domestic life, finding joy in household tasks and Kobayashi’s companionship.
Tohru possesses extensive dragon abilities: superhuman strength, speed, durability, and stamina. She regenerates body parts like her tail—a trait central to a running gag where she repeatedly tries to feed it to Kobayashi as affection. Her primary offensive ability is fire breath, capable of dispersing storms or firing concentrated energy beams. She excels in aerial combat using her wings and hand-to-hand confrontations, having fought dragons like Ilulu and her father without tiring. Magically, she opens interdimensional portals—a rare dragon skill—and uses clairvoyance to see through objects or perception-blocking to conceal herself or others. Additional traits include immunity to illness, cleansing saliva, and immunity to toxins in her tail.
Her relationship with Kobayashi defines her character arc, marked by persistent romantic advances and eventual reciprocation in the manga when Kobayashi confesses mutual feelings. Tohru acts as a caretaker for Kanna, guiding her in the human world with a sibling-like bond. Her dynamic with Elma, a dragon from the rival Order Faction, evolved from bitter enmity—rooted in Tohru destroying Elma’s temple—to reluctant coexistence and reconciliation. She initially distrusted Takiya, Kobayashi’s colleague, but grew to respect him after he housed Fafnir. Her most contentious relationship is with her father, Damocles, who despises humans and attempted to forcibly return her to their world, leading to a physical and ideological clash resolved only when Kobayashi intervened.
Tohru’s backstory reveals centuries of anti-human indoctrination overturned by her rescue and life with Kobayashi. This new existence cemented her human connections, culminating in a non-biological family unit where Kobayashi serves as a parental figure and Kanna as the child. Tohru’s commitment to this life is absolute; she rejects returning to her home world, choosing to remain with Kobayashi despite outliving her.
