Description
Camille Rivière, known in the original Japanese as Chibiusa, is the future daughter of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask, hailing from the 30th century Crystal Tokyo. In the French adaptation of the anime, her civilian name is Camille, and she is introduced as the cousin of the main character, though her true identity is that of their child from the future. Her nickname, Chibiusa, translates to "little rabbit," a nod to her mother's name which means "Rabbit of the Moon". As the Crown Princess of Earth, she is also known as the Small Lady, but in the present time, she lives in Azabu-Juuban with Usagi Tsukino and her family.
Born on June 30th, Camille has a personality that is often described as sweet yet hotheaded, and she can be easily misunderstood due to her youthful energy. She is generally upbeat, extroverted, and outgoing, but she also possesses a deep-seated insecurity regarding her lack of powers compared to other Sailor Guardians, a trait that stems from being teased in the future for not having any abilities. She does not like it when Usagi is nosy about her personal affairs. Because her ultimate dream is to grow up and become a beautiful lady, many of her actions are driven by a desire to appear more mature. This often leads to her heavily criticizing Usagi for being a crybaby and clumsy, as she sees these traits as signs of immaturity. Despite trying to act like a perfectionist, she is prone to starting tasks alone to prove her independence.
Her primary motivation throughout the SuperS season is tied directly to her role in the story. She becomes the chosen partner of Pegasus, also known as Helios, the guardian of the beautiful dreams of the people on Earth. Pegasus hides from the Dead Moon Circus within Camille's dreams, tasking her with protecting him and finding the Golden Crystal. As a result, she plays a capital role in the fight against the Dead Moon Circus, acting as the key to accessing the power needed to defeat their enemies. She is the only one who can summon Pegasus to empower the Sailor Guardians and unlock stronger transformations, such as Super Sailor Moon. The plot of the season shifts its focus heavily onto her psychology, reflecting her transition from childhood innocence to a more aware understanding of responsibility, repercussions, and adult concepts like romance. This centrality to the plot was a point of divergence for the anime adaptation, as SuperS focused almost entirely on her development and relationship with Helios.
Camille shares a complex and vital relationship with her future mother, Usagi Tsukino, and her future father, Mamoru Chiba. While living in the past, she often squabbles with Usagi like sisters, frequently arguing over Mamoru or minor annoyances, though she is deeply attached to her future father. She is usually accompanied by Luna P, a magical ball-shaped device that looks like a small moon cat, which she uses for attacks and problem-solving. She also has a close association with the Outer Sailor Guardians, particularly Sailor Pluto, though these characters are notably absent from the main plot of the SuperS anime. Her most significant new bond is with Helios, who resides within her Dream Mirror. This relationship teaches her about trust, protection, and the nature of beautiful dreams.
Throughout the series, Camille undergoes notable development. Initially depicted as a bratty and somewhat selfish child in earlier seasons, she gradually matures, becoming more comfortable with herself and more confident in her abilities as a Sailor Guardian. She learns that maturity is not about doing everything alone, but about understanding her own feelings and trusting others. In the SuperS season, this growth is tested as she guards the secret of Pegasus and learns to fight alongside the others as a more capable and reliable ally.
As a Sailor Guardian, Camille transforms into Sailor Chibi Moon, and later into Super Sailor Chibi Moon after receiving power from Pegasus. Her Sailor uniform is predominantly pink and red, featuring rabbit-ear shaped odango hairstyles, and in her Super form, her shoulder pads become translucent and shaped like wings. Her notable abilities include Luna P Henge, where she bounces Luna P to transform it into various objects. Her signature attack is Pink Sugar Heart Attack, performed using the Pink Moon Stick, which sends a stream of hearts at a target to purify them, though it is often considered a relatively weak attack. With the Crystal Carillon, she can perform Twinkle Yell, the call that summons Pegasus to the battlefield. She can also perform combination attacks with Sailor Moon, such as the Double Sailor Moon Kick and, in her Super form, the Rainbow Double Moon Heart Ache. In times of extreme distress, the crescents on her odango covers can emit supersonic waves that harm enemies.
