Description
Maya is a merchant who joins the main party in the anime Ragnarok the Animation. She is first introduced after the mage Takius and is characterized by her initially selfish and roguish nature, frequently joining adventuring parties with the intent of stealing loot and absconding with their money. This disagreeable behavior stems from a traumatic event in her childhood in the town of Alberta, where she was beaten after attempting to sell apples using a cart she had built herself. She first encounters the protagonists Roan and Yufa in the Prontera Sewers, when they rescue her from a swarm of Thief Bugs. Later, she repays their kindness by delivering a Blue Potion to Yufa during a battle with a Golden Thief Bug, which begins her gradual shift away from her self-serving ways.

As Maya becomes more attached to Yufa and the rest of the group, her personality softens, and she moves from being a con artist to a loyal companion. She has a distinct fondness for monsters and is almost always accompanied by her pet Poring named Poy-Poy. In one episode, she befriends a monster that resembles a human maid, known as an Alice, but this creature meets a tragic end due to the actions of Zealotus, a half-monster who despises humans. In a later confrontation in Comodo, Maya nearly kills Zealotus out of revenge, but the spirit of Alice appears and convinces her to forgive him. She ultimately makes peace with Zealotus, though the reconciliation comes too late to alter the events already set in motion.

Throughout the series, Maya does not undergo a job advancement like the other main characters, remaining a merchant rather than evolving into a higher-level class. Her combat abilities include the skills Mammonite, which uses money as a weapon, and Cart Revolution, a technique involving her merchant cart. She also demonstrates an ability to throw potions in a manner similar to an Alchemist. Her role in the story is that of a pragmatic and resourceful member of the group, whose growth stems from overcoming her past trauma and learning to trust and care for others. Her key relationships are with Yufa, whose kindness inspires her to change, and with the monster Alice, whose death challenges her capacity for forgiveness and shapes her emotional development by the series end.
