Description
Keough is a supporting character in Ragnarok The Animation, known primarily as the older brother of the acolyte Yufa and a skilled knight. Before the events of the series, Keough was a noble and courageous warrior, deeply dedicated to protecting those he loved, especially his younger sister. He shared a close childhood friendship with the assassin Iruga, and the two were often seen undertaking dangerous quests together.

Keough’s history is central to his role in the story. He accompanied Iruga on an expedition to investigate the haunted ruins of Glastheim. When the group was forced to flee from the powerful monsters within, their escape was blocked by an Abysmal Knight. In a selfless act, Keough chose to distract the creature, allowing Iruga to lead Roan and a young Yufa to safety. Before Iruga could return to help him, Keough was fatally stabbed by the monster’s blade, known as the Blade Lost in Darkness, and the gates of Glastheim closed on him. Presumed dead by his friends and family, Keough’s fate took a darker turn. The Dark Lord, a malevolent entity seeking to return to full power, resurrected and brainwashed Keough, corrupting his soul and turning him into a servant of evil. In this state, Iruga gave him the nickname Haze, reflecting the shadow of the person he had once been.

Under the Dark Lord's control, Keough's personality was twisted into a solemn and brooding antagonist. His primary motivation became to serve his master, which directly involved luring Yufa to the dark side. Yufa was the bearer of a soul crystal, a crucial artifact the Dark Lord needed for his complete revival, and Keough’s connection to her made him the perfect tool for manipulation. Despite his corrupted state, faint echoes of his original noble nature occasionally surfaced.

His relationship with Yufa remains the emotional core of his story arc. He appears to her as a figure of both terror and longing, representing the brother she lost and the enemy she must confront. His friendship with Iruga is tragic; Iruga, knowing the truth of Keough's fate, is driven to save him from the Dark Lord’s grasp. Keough’s role in the plot is largely as an antagonist and a tragic figure, a once-heroic knight now forced to work against his former allies. His presence creates deep internal conflict for both Yufa and Iruga, testing their resolve as they try to stop the Dark Lord without harming someone they love.

Keough undergoes a poignant development. As the series reaches its climax and the Dark Lord’s revival nears completion, Keough is ultimately killed by his master, who no longer needs him. In his final moments, freed from the Dark Lord's control, he reverts to his true self. Mere seconds from death, he reforms and apologizes to Iruga for everything he was forced to do. His redemption is completed after his death, when his soul appears to Yufa in a dream. In this vision, he warns her not to follow the path of darkness he was forced to take and encourages her to trust and follow Roan, who would protect her. As a knight, his notable abilities would include proficiency with swords and heavy armor, fitting his job class, though his most significant role was as a tragic figure whose sacrifice and subsequent fall from grace drive much of the emotional conflict in the series.
